I agree.

When the Tsunami happened claiming over 1000 lives, where was all the coverage??
They tend to focus on lesser important things than a lot of tragedies that happen elsewhere.

I exclude the VT thing, that was bad but it doesn't need to be playing over & over...esp the tapes sent to NBC of him rambling like a lunatic.

it is pretty ridiculous, and it's a large part of the reason why i just don't care to watch/read the news.

the extent of the news coverage i get is provided by The Daily Show, the 15 minutes that i might spend listening to NPR on a random morning while driving to work, and through conversations with my mom and Rob.

Same. I usually try not to watch it. If I do it'll only be my local five o'clock news station. Other than that, I just check my Google homepage with RSS feeds from Reuters, BBC, CNN, local news, etc. Just a quick scan tells me everything that's going on, sans bullshit.

meh, as long as this shit stays away from Comedy Central/Adult Swim/ESPN I'm alright. Don't really watch much TV as it is. If I really feel like it I'll catch up with it online.

If you're watching CNN all day long and then complaining about which stories they cover you got other problems.

In recent years, the Anna Nicole coverage was the worse. No one I knew cared.

ok, so i can see noone likes the 24/7 coverage of 1 story, so why do the news networks do it? wtf..

i dont see the need 10 psychologists trying to figure out what was going on in the head of a patient they didnt even know. grrrr

i read an article [on CNN, ironically enough] today that a lot of the VT students are upset about all the media coverage.

i haven't really been watching the news a whole lot lately [mainly just at work online], but i think perhaps its getting a bit too much. when they start interfering w/ people's daily activities...especially around a tragedy...it's kinda annoying.

howeve,r i have to admit, i was absolutely glued to CNN when Katrina came ashore back in 05. literally, i watched it for almost 8 hours a day for like a week. anytime i had a break.

everything is based on controlled agenda setting.

all the big wigs push for is entertaining the audience.

if huge media conglomerates decided that manatees and brussel sprouts were the main commodity of this world...... then so be it!

we would love manatees and brussel sprouts.

and it would be swell.

i'm totally not trying to start a debate here or anything, but.....

i hear about car-bombings in iraq a lot [and how many of iraqis [i guess, plus americans or other culturs]] die.

really tho, its just because we're such a sensationalist society. i mean, the same media went nuts over columbine and stuff like that.

it's the "hot story" right now because it hasn't happened in awhile. if the same thing happened on a monthly basis, it would just be on your local evening news.
