the way the 800 works is that it has a send/return that routes directly in to the effects circuit. the effects knob on the 800 switches between the various on-board effects as well as through the send-return circuit which is why you can only use one or the other. the 800 considers the send/return as an "Extra effect" in that sense.

Ahh... that's a little dumb, but clean I suppose.

I think you already mentioned the only options... placing a filter unit on the master out.

Or, buy two and stick one between each CDJ and your mixer (which would cost a fortune).

The VF-1 has two sets of outputs on the back, one balance and one unbalanced. You could record off of one of them... of course you wouldn't be able to change the master volume while you record.

Still, I'm not sure you need BOTH the DJM-800's effects AND the filter going at the same time, but that's just me.

Edit: One more suggestion - Sell the DJM-800, buy a Xone 92 and an EFX-1000 Solved!

Yeah, I was wondering why you went with an ext filter. Do you notice a big difference form the 800s on board filter?

The Vermona sounds 1000x better than Pioneer's on-board one - being a very high quality analogue one, it uses natural resonance rather than digitally imitating it, which sounds SO much warmer... although of course the main benefit is you've got so much more control over it, actually having a separate cutoff frequency and resonance controls for both high and low pass filtering, rather one knob to do both high and low pass cutoff and the resonance as well... (on the Pioneer it just increases the resonance a bit as you filter up or down)

Personally I'm quite a big fan of the Electrix Filter Queen and Filter Factory, in terms of functionality - I think the Vermona sounds a little bit better, but the Electrix ones aren't bad by any stretch, although they don't make them anymore (it's a shame that they look a bit plasticy):

I've been tempted to buy one for a while
