Well, what you have to realize is that we just sort of "picked" frequencies which we make our music with... Kind of like how we chose to use 10 digits to do most math (10 fingers, probably).

Todays modern instruments are all tuned to A440 pitch. During the Baroque period, they tuned their instruments a little differently. You can still go to concerts and hear baroque music played on a clavichord tuned to a different pitch.

Eastern music also uses different harmonics.
