yes, but if the raving/ clubbing/ trance etc. community would make a strong point that these law are superfluous -there are laws regulating ILLEGAL drug use already- the discussion would be settled for a while..

BTW.: I do not want to spread some hate speech, but why do we not see similar laws about the whole 'black music'/ Rap/ hip Hop community either?!? Why are they targeting raves and 'Methamphetamines' instead of targeting weed etc. as well?

I think it is interesting to see this point. Maybe because the politicians are not afraid of ravers, since we do not run around with guns trying to be 'da baddest gansta on da street, yo'. So they will not have to fear for their lives

grr law ideas like this (and the DCMA, CCsmsdawhatever) make me MAD

LOL!!! It certainly seems like that could be it.

This whole issue brings to mind Orwell's 1984. The U.S. really is Big Brother, out to control your life. If *they* say a certain thing/event is bad, even though they might not have experienced it, then it *is* bad. Period. It's sick.

the amusing thing is -according to my roommate- that one does not read 1984 in school in the USA.. for all i know, it is standard lit in Germany.. you _will_ have read it by the time you graduate...

funny, huh?!?

btw.: I love that book, i had randomly picked it up at the library the other day and was looking for a quote, i could not stop reading... l0l

...the resolution states: "Whoever knowingly promotes any rave, dance, music, or other entertainment event, that takes place under circumstances where the promoter knows or reasonably ought to know that a controlled substance will be used or distributed in violation of Federal law or the law of the place were the event is held, shall be fined under title 18, United States Code, or imprisoned for not more than nine years, or both."

Laws like this don't work, as Britain found out.

A few years ago it was possible to try shopkeepers for selling alcohol to any under 18 yr old, but they have come to realise that there's not a lot shopkeepers and barstaff can do, particularly when people look older than they are.

There's a simple reason they're doing this: votes. So 50,000 ravers kick up a fuss? So what. Millions of old people think the government are doing something right to stop this "evil misuse of satanic substances".

So you lose the votes of a few hardcore underground ravers, and gain the votes of millions of balding Americans who believe that the "youth of today" should take up bowling and chess. Cha-ching you've just scored shitloads of votes.

Our government do it too. They know that the entire youth of Britain want 24 hour pub and club licences, ie the freedom of any club to be open as long as it likes, but they don't enact this law. Cities like Newcastle, who have earlier closing times, are nationally renowned for violence and high alcohol consumption, yet other cities with later clubs such as Sheffield and Liverpool have been rated as much safer.

They keep talking about it before every election, dangling it in front of the electorate to gain loads of votes, then you never hear about it untuil the next election.

I think now is the time to take action. Once these laws get passed, it'll be a lot harder and will take a lot longer to get them reversed.
