imagine a bowling bowl sits in the middle of your bed. if you put an object near the bowling bowl it will trickel down to the bowlingbowl because there is downward tension on the bed. supposedly to this theory, space works in the same way... the sun,a HUGE object creates tension on space making anything that is close to it (relativly close) is attracted to it... now if that object is in movment, it will continue to rotate around this object. if it is not in motion it will continure to drag towares the bigger object. |
it's not necessarily the size [although thats a good generality], but the mass/density of something.
if the moon was the size of the sun, but still made out of the same material [i.e. rock], it wouldn't have as great of a gravitational affect of the sun [molton gas, or whatever]
