thats the difference, FL u wouldnt need to jump ship to another product to keep up creativity once u have a lot of experience with it.

I can guarantee you that as someone who is new to music production, it would take you a long time to be able to honestly say that you have mastered vanguard and have outgrown it. It doesnt really work like that with synths anyway. If one synth is simple and another is very complicated, there is a fair chance that for years you will be producing better sounds with the simple one. Does that make it better?

I would build the bassline up using velocity CC messages rather than automating any mixer faders as it allows greater control.

Plus you can quickly drop the bass away 1/4 of a bar before slamming in. If you want a big start you can increase the velocity by say 5 or 10 pionts so when it kicks in the volume increases very veyr slightly so you feel rather than directly hear it. Same for kicks too.

Alternatively in the mastering stage you could apply compression for the same effect after a drop with a slower attack so the initial say 1sec full seq is not caught and comrpessed as much by the compressor.

to be honest i found fl hard to find my way round but found reason and cubase very easy !!

The TB303 was given away with numerous synths in the 80's. Some people said it was a toy . However toys are fun to play, and having fun while making music translates into cool tracks.

not true, you can't get bored of vanguard, it can do things vstation can't, and vstation can do things it can't. Vanguard has so many unique oscillators and filter types I don't see how you can't like ANY of them.

Know what I think you're problem is? Vanguard doesn't have built in EQ, thus the presets aren't EQd for you so you have trouble using the presets in songs cause you need to eq them yourself.

you're making me want to rip on FL, but I won't, because it doesn't deserve it, and either does vanguard. I'll say it again though, Fruity Loops IS the Vanguard of Sequencers.

The velocity thing flutchlit said is a good one. like, you can go back to basics by automating simple MIDI changes and somtimes come up with a cleaner result. You could just automate the filter frequency to increase synth intensity as you come in, or maybe even resonance. If its a sawtooth bass your working with, bringin in FM grinds it up nice. If you have a delay on the synth, you could play around with the dry/wet or feedback to add intensity but somtimes this can cause problems with overlapping delays, you have to get it just right. In general, its just a case of dragging the record back to the beginning of the 8 bars then messing about with diff knobs over the course of the 8 bars and when you find somthing good just record it in man. but obviously when your messing round with the knobs either remeber where they were in the first place or save the song, dont wanna irreversibly change something you cant change back.

i love vanguard for my mid and high layers for my basslines!!!

Honestly, how the fuck can you claim to know how easy it is to learn something "inside out" when you haven't even learned 10% of what it can do, or even the basic concepts behind it what it does?
