I was hooked on the Sosa tracks way back in 1997, but I didn't know it was Picotto. I first started actively hunting his tracks in 1998 when I heard Lizard and Ricky Effe's Technotemple. Mauro Picotto is definately the number one producer in my mind. No competition. We find Timo Maas and Mario Piu at distant 2nds.
Btw. someone said that Picotto was behind some act called Clubhouse in the early 90's but only recently started spinning. That's not entirely true. He won a DJ competition in mid 80's and has spinning ever since (don't know about the time before), and the act was Cappella (U & Me, U Got 2 Know, U Got 2 Let The Music etc.)
I agree that he's changed his style somewhat over the last year, and so he has during the years before that. He was the driving force behind the Mediterrenean Progressive sound, which was developed in cooperation with Gianfranco Bortolotti from about 1996 to 1999. If you listen to something like the early R.A.F. tracks "Ocean Whispers", "Bakerloo Symphony" or the first D'Agostino EP you'll reckognise that things didn't happen overnight.
Well, I'll stop here, I could be writing on this subject for days..
