i agree. i'm not a big fan of it but they do great business there with its crowd of regulars. i think the last time i went specifically to AHP was around 6 years ago to see Mauro Picotto the same night Cox was at Spundae and Tiesto at Giant. |
I wasn't there the night Mauro Picotto played @ AHP, but I heard it was unfuckingbelievable. That was back then, when AHP was good.
But now, it's a fucking circus act. I don't think they have AHP every weekend (thank the lord), but whenever they do, it's SUCH A BUZZ KILL.
For example, about a year ago, James Holden was playing @ Avalon. Everyone was enjoying his set, next thing u know, they put down these curtains on the main stage for like 10 minutes. When they finally opened the curtains, James Holden was gone, and they had this circus act going on with transvestite dancers and TERRIBLE music (probably Steve Crapo or TJ Hoban "DTJ"). This was around 3:30am approximately. Not only that, but the crowd was a bunch of juice heads walking around without shirts, and women who looked like men, and even more noticable washing machines than before.
This happened ALL the time... they would kick off the main DJ to put on their circus act. Why people actually get to Avalon at 3am to go to AHP and miss the main DJ? I have no idea.
Thank god Giant moved to Vangaurd, which reduces the chance of AHP ruining the end of the main DJ's set.
I've only been going to Avalon now if the DJ is worth it (ie Mr. C & Booka Shade... Droog/Droid & Josh Wink), and luckily, they haven't been AHP nights.
