My cat Tai loves to be patted hard like that too. He loves it. Actually I have been able to train him through positive reinforcement using that.

He will now always come when I snap my fingers at him; he'll jump onto surfaces (countertops, couches, beds, the stairs) pretty much on command, and when I snap w/ my hands in the air above his head he'll always stand up on his hind legs in order for his head to reach close to my hand so I'll pet his head.

My Fluffas is a fucking SMART ass cat.
