Finding music is 90% of a DJ's job. That other 10% is what he/she does with it behind the decks.

I am a little perplexed by some of the responses here.

Was thinking about the hollywood theme though. If I was doing a night like that I would probably try and make it smooth and funky. Would probably not consider going down the trance route. Take a look at what's big in hollywood right now although if you do that too much you may end up playing RnB ( )

Saying that you know the crowd better than I do but I would look into who is coming for that.

In terms of recomending stuff I'm afraid I can't help you very much as it' s not what I play.

But I wish you the best of luck.

Cheers
Nem

Go into beatport and just search each genre (at least all the main ones you might find interest in), and start going as far back as you can. If you find a track you like, search itsx artist/label/remixer as they often lead to similar stuff.

It's time consuming but finding gems on your own is super rewarding

Seeing the sound your pushing is generally what im looking at anyway. What genres would you say summmed you up?

What genres do you pull your tunes from?

cbrendan, also get on soulseek (P2P Network) and go in to the progressive room. There's a lot of chat about choons and people list what they are playing.

You want to look in to progressive and electro.
As I said, look at Jaytech, Rowan Blades, Dousk, 16b, Trentmoller and hoxton Whores. Dj's like desyn Massiello, Sasha (obviously), Sander Kleinenberg, Howells etc.

Also UK trance alliance has a good digital shop with a top ten section (useful for you) and latest releases.

I browse Tech House, Minimal, Prog, Deep House, Electro, House and Techno pretty much 3 times a week.
