LOL good point there!

*sigh* bureaucratic governmental types...I wonder why people vote for these guys anyway?

Oh wait...not many people understand the whole "drugs/rave" (sorry for putting them together=/!) issue anyway. People mostly give in to government propaganda/lies rather than find out the truth for themselves.

I find that to be very true. Many people who know nothing about the entire rave scene have stereotypes in their head and they refuse to open their minds to learn more about the entire scene and what its all about - they only believe what they hear in the media, which is totally biased about 99% of the time.

I hate putting DRUGS/RAVES together.. but it's a reality! Though it's sad most ignorant people that are narrow minded only see the negative things.
Drugs are everywhere! It's a sad fact! drugs have been around forever, and raves are just one easy target.

Exactly - it's the sad reality, nothing less. Many people that I know (including my parents) buy into the garbage spewed out by the media - including the apparent fact that everyone that goes to a rave takes E, just for the sake of the drug ... silly, really. Recently, however, I've been opening their eyes a little and explaining to them the real reason for going - the music!!!

That's the one and only solution - education. When education meets ignorance, provided that the mind is open and unclouded by prejudices/stereotypes, education always wins! And if the mind is so clouded by said prejudices/stereotypes that you cannot get to their inner being, then run away from those people! They're not worth your time!

I've read that the "rave/underground" scene is the unfortunate target of the "drug industry" as such, within this time period. I believe that early in the past century (20's and 30's), the "drug industry" was focussed on the jazz culture - giving it a bad image in the same way that raves/parties are given today.

but its like that about every subject that the media is covering and the viewer knows nothing about... whenever you have media spoonfeeding you about something, unless you know otherwise or wish to research about it on your own, you tend to accept it... and like jasymin said, since 99% of what you get from the media is biased, well....

Yes i agree, governments want to display to the public that they are doing something about the drug situation because it is obviously getting out of hand down there in the states. So what do they do, they pick the most noticable target, RAVES, associate them with heavy drug use and crack down on them. In the eyes of the public the problem is solved. However drug use among americans continues to rise in reality, but the media won't report on that; its all propaganda!!!

Its so obvious that the method by which the American governments have used in the past to control drug use among its population is obviously a failure. Perhaps they should reconsider their methods, even look at over countries where drug use has been contained and take example of their system. They should also focus more of their time and energy at the true underlying problem, the problem which is driving most of these drug users to habitually use drugs. They should raise the standard of living in those areas where drug use is at its high. They should also consider revamping the whole ideology of the "american way of life" because it is obvious that there is something wrong with it.

Lets take the Netherlands, Amsterdam for example. They have one of the lowest crime rates yet marijuana is legal and the biggest raves happen there! How can this be??? How can you explain this? Their country is not even close to being as wealthy as the States yet they seem to have a higher standard of living and low crime rate. Besides in Isreal, where else in the world do have have people regularly loosing control of their own minds and going on a killing sprea of their immediate family and friends? I mean just 2 days ago that X-SWAT team member shot and killed 5 people and even shot the chief of police! Now if there's not something wrong with that then i don't know what is.

Like i said earlier, the americans know that they have their whole philosophy wrong and all they do is try blind people with a feable attempt at making their country a better place to live by abolishing raves...

thats my 2 cents...

I totally agree. Nice job there contrasting the U.S.'s situation with Amsterdam!!!

As for the U.S.:

United States of America + CNN = Big Brother

It's already happening!!!

I couldn't have said it better myself. People who do not open their minds to education are definitely not worthy of your time. Why waste your breathe trying to explain something to someone if they already have preconcieved notions in their head!

There is definitely something wrong with the so called american way of life. At times like these, I am glad that I live in Canada. I would not want to live in a country where the government turns a blind eye from the responsiblility of educating the public about the realities of drug use and don't bother to question why so many people turn to drugs.

The Netherlands are more open minded and they realize that there is no point in fighting something that many people enjoy doing and will continue to do even if it was illegal - might as well make it legal and make some money off it and boost the economy!

Well i agree with the "if you can beat it join it" idea. But going as far as making money off of selling a substance which has the potential to do harm to human health is wrong. I mean why do you think all the tobacco companies are losing all those lung cancer law suits??

I think that governments should take a more active and responsible role when it comes to controling substance use. They should realise that people will do drugs whether its ilegal or not. Therefore, as it has already been said in this thread, EDUCATION is key!! Responsible drug use should be pushed forward but with a line drawn at drug ABUSE and MISUSE...
