What I was trying to get at is that the jp8000 was pretty much the first va, and the virus came out much later. The bottom line is that the virus can do a lot more, better.

I thought the nord lead 1 was pretty much the first VA

JP8000 - 1997
virus B - 1999 (I don't know when the "A" was released)
Nord Lead 2 - 1997 (dunno when "1" was released either)

But I do think you can compare VA's. You really only need one VA, the most basic sounds you can reproduce on any decent VA. Sure they have different character but still

Just saw an add in one of the premier music-magazines in Norway, where someone wants to buy the jp8000 for 1300$. This is the dobble of what I paid, maybe I should sell it and buy the new virus kc instead...
Anyone tried the new virus ?


By the way, the nordlead I was released in 1995.

After using the jp for a couple of weeks now, it's clear that it's a great synth for trance leads.. The oscillators seems fine to.. And it sure looks nice in it's blue color.

But, compared to todays hardware it doesn't stand up in by opinion...

First, the arpeggiator is to simple. It's unprecise, and only have the usual up, down, up/down and a random setting. You may also record your own, but it's no library to store them all in for easy access later.

You also run out of voices (8 voices on board) if you would like to use to for more than just leads.

This list could of course be endless comparing the jp with todays synths. Sure the patches sounds good (and the supersaw is huge!) but in my opinion you're better of with a supernova II. (If you can afford it, believe me, it's well worth it! ) The supernova has almost all the sounds in the jp (and if not, you may create them) and loads of more. 1024 patches, 24 voices and an advanced arpeggiator with bpm count etc..

My point is, I can't see why I should use the jp when I got this supernova-baby in my studio..

do you use the arp's on synths??? i never do, i find there far to inaccurate. especially my nova, bpm can only be adjusted in wholes, so no 140.5bpm

hmmm, I do undestand what you saying, but i dont think anyone who knows anythinf would recommend a jp8080 or a ms2000r as a first synth as they are not hi enough multimbrally(sp?). I can easily use up the 6 ive got on my nova.

Im interested in a particular sound e.g. dutch force mix of rank 1 (the arppegio after the strings in the breakdown). So if it has it, then im gonna start saving ....for a virus, he hee

Yea, I agree with you. Both the jp's and the korg ms2000 are not the first synth you should by..... the polyphony is to low, and a first synth should be an all-rounder... for example, the cs1x, cs2x or cs6x are all great starters (suitable for trance as well!)

I find the arpeggiator in my Supernova II highly usable! It has 128 preset polyphonic, 128, preset monophonic and 192/192 user programmable polyphonic/monophonic patterns. You can even use 8 arpeggiators simultaneously in performance mode..

Got your point, but I don't feel like making a song in eg. 138.7 bpm, so I'm all fine with the arpeggiator in the supernova

What do you use then ? The built in arpeggiator in Cubase, or do you just make them yourself, on the fly ?

ive tried to programme my own, so i can understand how they work. And im quite pleased with the results!! The main reason I dont use the nova's own arp is mainly cos of difficulty timing it all up, i find it doesnt play as in time as i want. I can get the nova to export the midi notes into a sequencer if i want, but for now ill leave that.

Do you have any choons online that i can listen to??

Novation Nova

in my setup...

if u want nice strings for melodic, uplifting trance...
and some hard leads...then i think u should get the jp8000.
i think its great...love the sound.

if u want more soft sawsounds...u know like chicane...
rank1...etc

then use novation nova or supernova 2

i thin k novation nova and jp8000 is the best combination
for trancemusic.....but i didnt say that virus is bad! =)

but if u gonna but your first synth ever...then i really think u should but nova or access because u´re getting more out from those 2 then jp8000....

the 2nd synth u should get is JP8000.

thats what i think...

yes,but im not telling. As they were made about a year ago using just reason. Im going to start up a new online site soon for some new stuff im producing using cubase + my nova.
