Depends entirely on the sound setup. If I'm playing on a real loud system with good monitors, 1 cue and 1 off is the best way for me. If I'm playing at low volume or without monitors, I match in the cans.

mainly one ear on one track and other ear on other track unless i'm struggling at all, in which case i use both tracks in headfones

totally depends on the monitors. usually i beatmatch all in headphones, which is something i have more or less developed from living in an apartment with people who don't like to listen to dance music at 5 AM.

i use the monitors then for mixing

were did you pick that nasty "cheat" word regarding DJs? ha, well...running choo-choo-trains in a mix is actually cheating the party ppl who payed money for some quality DJ performance, no?

i love to mix entirely in my phones, since the monitors rarely give you the whole picture. you dont have to focus on the monitors trying to leave the ambience away, you just play it in your headphones and you understand how cool you are

I personally like to beatmatch with both cups on. That gives you a much better precision. I tend to like longer transitions though and my decks are not that good (.1 pitch resolution). Because of that I need to take off one cup and and listen to what's coming from the speakers and ride the pitch accordingly.

As for your statement about cheating - I really don't see how cheating is possible when spinning. Unless you plug in a pre-made mix and look like you are doing something. But then again - that will not work, because you really need to adjust your track selection, based on the crowd.

i like to beatmatch in my headphones, i learned soley in my haedphones because i was in my parents basement at late hours

i can beatmatch other ways, headphones one on, then off listening to the monitors and such

i use what i prefer but am adaptable depending on the setup

Absolutely, no one should EVER use the headphones to beatmatch two tunes together. As a matter of fact, you are breaking the DJ code by even using them in the first place.........

Why do you use one ear mainly, if you are more confident with both cups?

While we are on the subject, good skills to practice are matching with just the noise coming from the stylus, assuming that you are using Techs or altgernatively just match from the monitors and put your headphones away.

As long as you can listen and match the sound in as many scenarios the more confident at mixing you will be.

If you rock the crowd with a mircophone up your ass then who am I to judge... don't try this though, I have a feeling it would mean a trip to the Accident and Emergency room at your hospital.

Cheers
Nem

I like going barefoot and matching eq lights to the bass reverb from the floor.

Not really, but it would be funny

learn as many ways as you can...

As said before, you never know what situation you'll encounter when playing out. The Rane MP2016 is popular down here, and it's strictly 1 in, 1 out monitoring on that mixer.
