deeman. thanks! first, when does the 2008 calendar come up. UofT (my school here) is asking that i pick my Oz classes by june 30th, but i heard that QLD won't have their 2008 calendar up for several months..making it impossible to pick classes yet.

also, where is a good area to live in relation to the school. My best friend is going to Griffith (Nathan campus hopefully) and the bf is hoping to work as an accountant. We are hoping to find a place that is 3 bedrooms, close to the beach (optional), close to public transit (how good is the public transit anyway??), nice neighbourhood, with room to park a car.

also, is getting a moped do-able there? they're practically no-existent here, as we're buried in snow 6 months of the year, but i drove one when living in spain and found them to be very convenient.

also, about jobs. laura and i are hoping to both bartend while in school. is it hard to get bartending jobs? i hear your min. wage is ridiculously good (beats out 6.95!) but that u don't get tips. if so, would u recommend another type of job that the two of us can do? (cue pkcraistlin)

thanks for your answers. anita too. you guys have been great

provided that you meet the legal age requirements for serving liquor (18 here if I'm correct), and have the necessary training certification (RSA and/or RCG - refer here for more info on this) then you should be good to go. This might be worth a read too.

I'm planning on doing one of those barmax courses before I head over to TO, just so I have some skills in case I pick up a casual job whilst I'm over there. I'm sure you'll be able to find similar courses in QLD.

You could always get into telemarketing type roles, they're always on the lookout for international visitors as the nature of the role is temporary (most people don't tend to stay long).

I'm at Griffith Nathan, staying on campus too so your friend might want to consider that because its fucking awesome.

There's heaps of places around Nathan with 3 bedrooms and close to public transit, depends on how much you want to pay.

A moped is good if you're using it to goto work, home, uni, shopping, but not for going into town since to get to the city from Nathan you'd need to use the freeway.

The most common jobs for travellers would probably be phone work - like market research. You might have heard of AC Nielsen, one of their offices is based in Brisbane and you get around $22 an hour.
