Hey this is Tag's gf...just wanted to clarify something...
Although I'm not defending these ppl and what they did because they are fuckin STUPID, I just wanted to explain where they come from...
In Lebanon, it is common practice to have housekeepers from countries such as Ethiopia and Sri Lanka who come to your home on a contract of two years or so, through an agency, make more money than they'd ever see in their own country and then go back home...
EVERYBODY has them there...even my mom's cousin who's husband is pretty wealthy and who lives in a big place, every couple years or so they get a new housekeeper to help around the house...however, these ppl are not slaves...they have a salary, a room, food etc. and when they leave to go back home, my mom's cousin buys them a bunch of gifts like TV's and clothes etc for their family...
It's kind of a win win situation...the Lebanese get the help they need (because Lebanese ppl are too snobby to EVER work as housekeepers themselves lol)and the other ppl get jobs and money, something they lack in their own countries...
However things took a turn when after a while some of these housekeepers would disapear and when they were finaly found, they were working as prostitutes...basicaly some of them were using the agencies to get a work permit to Lebanon and then run away and get into prostitution...now the ppl who bring them in are responsible for them...if anything happens to them, they will have problems, so what they started doing is they would keep their passports and papers in a safe to make sure the person wouldn't run away...
Since this Armenian couple only came to Canada in 2004, I'm guessing they were not very well aware that what they were doing is illegal here...when it says in the article that this person had to work 24/7, what they mean is that she didn't have specific vacation days, but I am SURE she wasn't put to work every minute of every day either...
In any case, I think these ppl are morons for thinking what is ok in Lebanon is ok here, but at the same time, the media likes to exagerate things and they are making it sound worst than it actualy is...that girl I am sure was not abused...besides if she was it would have said so in the article...basicaly the only thing this couple did wrong is not let her leave the house on her own or have access to her papers, and I already explained why they would not want her to do that...
So ya...I think these ppl are more stupid than they are evil and I think the media is good at manipulating things a lot...the end.
