Dave Chapelle didn't "snap". He's a simple guy who doesn't like bullshit or bullshitters. His career came to a point where he was surrounded by yes-people and he didn't know who his real friends were anymore. His show was going in a direction he didn't agree with so he cut it off. He didn't even want to go back to it.
I have a lot of respect for Chapelle. He doesn't give a fuck to be a celebrity, or to have a shit-tonne of money. He has a lot of integrity and that's why he took off - to escape the bullshit and do what he knew was right for him.
You should read the interview in GQ magazine.

I agree when people get fed up they just don't care anymore, just like playing cards after 8+ hours you don't care anymore that you lost 100 bucks in one night lol enough is enough.

Maybe crazy is too strong of a word but it encapsulates his condition without going into a long winded explanation.
You know its still possible to have respect for him, agree with his decision to leave and still believe he's mentally unstable. Seems to me his mental condition is the real reason and the other things he sights are superficial at best.
"simple guy who doesn't like bullshit or bullshitters. His career came to a point where he was surrounded by yes-people and he didn't know who his real friends were anymore."
Even though it was his show, doesn't change the fact he was still working for Comedy Central. I don't believe they were too controlling. Dave comes off paranoid about ppl on then set not laughing the right way at his jokes. And yes its a business (oh shock). When you work at a job, its nice to get along with your co-workers but they aren't stabbing you in the back if they're not your friend.
He seems to keep trying to make it about people liking him or being his friend. I've been told that most comedian suffer from a desire for approval, attention, and love from their audience. In Dave case it seems to have effected his ability to function. Its sad but I don't fault him for it.

lol don't tell me this has never happen to you, playing the first 4 hours are fun with 8 or so buddies, after 6 hours you start to think hmmm maybe I should start betting more so I can end this, after 7 hours whoever is left starts to break down and make dumb mistakes, by the 8th hour you start to realize this game is going nowhere soon after that decision you start to bargain with the others why don't we split the gains? after 8+ you just don't care no more neither do the other player and start to go all in on stupid hands lol
