I've always kind of laughed at "DJ competitions" like these.

Sure, turntablism competitions are a fucking blast, but let's be honest here - the kind of mixing we're talking about for something like this is usually going to heavily rely on subjective experience and taste when individuals are passing judgment on the entries.

Picking an objective "winner" of such a competition seems like a bit of a joke to me; it just doesn't really seem possible.

True, however that's where voting comes in - the set with the most votes wins. And then, there's not necessarily an 'objective winner', more just which is more popular.
