heres a review type thingy i did for my myspace blog, ive found and added some videos that match everything ive wrote so you can get an idea of what was happening.... my writing skills wont win any awards haha but it should give you an idea of what the event was like for the saturday....
i was a bit unsure about going this year after the chaos of last years event and the weather that we've had locally in worcestershire over the last few months but by the wednesday before i just couldnt resist and miss out so unlike so many people who pulled out, i braved the mud (and rain) and made my way to long marston for what turned out to be the best global ive been to so far.
traffic around long marston was pretty manic and after managing to get lost and end up travelling through 3 counties (even though i live 12 miles away from the site) we had to get dropped just outside long marston village and walk the couple of miles to the site only to find we got there on the far side of the site from the main gate. so after 30mins more walking we got to the gate and reassuringly only took no more than 30 seconds to pass through security and make our way onto the site.
after doing the important things like get one of those time book things and a drink etc, it was time to meet up with everyone but due to the fact everyone else spent the friday night there and camped, a few people were awol and hard to get hold of but eventually we found jay and co and had a good laugh at the carnage going on at the lynx "man wash" stand.
then we took a walk around the site, getting our bearings and having a look around all the tents. naturally it was to be the godskitchen tent first which mistakenly looked alot smaller than it actually was, where we saw marcell woods play (what would be the first of 6 times) "sander van doorn - riff". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NvK8KqlDpr8 (this is "advanced" not "riff" by the way)
after 10 minutes we moved onto the the sputnik tent where evil nine was playing some really funky breaks which i really liked but then it was off to the bedrock tent http://myspacetv.com/index.cfm?fuse...ideoid=14699427 which was bouncing along nicely to the sounds of chloe harris who i honestly had never heard of until i walked into the tent and i was plesently supprised with some deep hypnotic progressive house and with the bar clear, it was time (according to my brother) to get some birthday drinks (it was my 26th on sunday 29th).
one large calpol tasting aftershock later and my eyes streaming, we danced with a group of people for an hour before going to the polysexual tent and the dnb tent for a look around.
then it was back off to the godskitchen tent to see a group who i knew previously about by their productions but not so much by their performances, second sun who played live. these guys put on a really good performance and had the crowd in the main tent bouncing with their trancy-vocal house which impressed me alot but then it was time to make our way to see an old friend, sam hudson on the contagious stage for an hour. http://myspacetv.com/index.cfm?fuse...ideoid=14699840
even though it started to rain and the mud being almost knee deep making my trainers feel like i was wearing concrete blocks, there was a good atmosphere around this stage and nobody cared about the weather. the ever reliable red arrows flew over on cue and put on a great show and by many accounts "stole the show". finishing with a big red heart over the radio one stage, the cheers from about 40,000 people stood in the rain were incredible. http://myspacetv.com/index.cfm?fuse...ideoid=14699725
then it was off to catch eddie halliwell back in the godskitchen tent. ive never been much of a huge fan of eddie and his music but this guy is worth going to see just for the way he gets the crowd going. the lad is a complete nutcase behind the decks and towards the end of his set he played a remix of greece 2000 which sent the packed tent wild before he climbed ontop of the stage then leaping into the crowd and spending the next couple of minutes surfing about 20 rows of people while the rest of the crowd screamed "eddie eddie" almost loud enough that you couldnt hear the music. i almost felt sorry for judge jules who was trying to prepare for his live broadcast as all this was carrying on infront of him and into the first 5mins of his set haha.

after venturing around a few other tents for a few hours, it was off to catch armin van buuren in the godskitchen tent which by this point was absolutely rammed. we managed to get down to the front and more or less in the middle to catch armin getting the already electric crowd going even more crazy. dancing was a bit mad seeing that i had what looked like a 2ft drop and a puddle close to my left foot but by that point nobody cared. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ce0tX6uNni0
by midnight, it was time for paul van dyk to take to the stage and if the crowd couldnt get any more wild then by the time pauls first track kicked in and the pyro on the stage lit up the arena then they certainly managed to find another level. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OtmE4I7TrFI
with his new digital setup http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g0MSAbEKtuU , he managed to squeeze so many tracks in and at such a banging pace, playing more tech-trance for the first hour while including his new track "new york city" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fR9rQ9pZwQA but then the music suddenly turned off which led to paul having to nevously get on the mic to inform the crowd that security wouldnt let him play on until 3 idiots who climed up the steel posts holding up the tent would get down. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xWGvL1-76fM now im not sure, but would you want to get down off a big post when there are 15,000 people screaming at you and booing and some throwing water bottles at you?... whatever did happen is purely what they deserved and after a short break the music was back on and away we went again. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-5qGA8fkKs
towards the second hour, paul played more along his traditional uplifting sound with his track "far away" and then a nice track called "onova - platitude".

then it was ferry corstens turn but we decided to take a break and have a walk around then pop into see steve lawler in the bedrock tent. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EqTei7eUaao i cant remember a hell of alot of being in there but i do remember it sounded absolutely great and dancing profusely for an hour or so before going back to the godskitchen tent to catch above and beyond.

above and beyond played what we all would expect of them and their particular sound and by then the soundsystem was struggling due to technical problems but i had a good dance in almost knee-deep mud with some of the anjunaforum guys till 5am when sander van doorn came on to finish the night but for me (and not particularly wanting to hear "riff" for the 30th time that night) the night was coming to an end and my body just had enough and it was time to go home. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vCxRP531P3M
we made our way through mud that glastonbury would be proud of towards the end and my brother who managed to get through the whole night without getting muddy, managed to fall face first into a huge puddle which by the time we got to our pick up at long marston village an hour later the pair of us had to completely strip and change into fresh clothes on the side of the road with bemused residents going about their normal routeens while giving us funny looks.
finally we made it home at 7am but my body was dead and still buzzing i could hardly sleep but since it was my birthday i had to do everything possible to get myself back to earth and prepare for my birthday drinks later that night.
after struggling with a pint in pershore, we made it into worcester where reassuringly i wasnt the only one suffering from global haha and a couple of vodkas later i was starting to feel better but by midnight my body just said enough was enough and it was time to go home.
all in all i had the time of my life compared to 2006 so roll on 2008.
