Oh god, don't remind me. I'm sitting in my office right now, i have a hoodie on over 2 other shirts, and my fingers are still cold. WHY DO YOU MAKE IT DO FREAKING COLD IN THE OFFICES? I don't want to have to keep remembering to grab my sweater before I go to work or else I get to freeze my balls off for 8 hours. GAH.

The energy use is not a factor -- seeing as how these will only be on at night.

Also, it is not cheap to 'store' electricity at non-peak periods for use in peak periods -- so -- you could have 20 of these towers lit up at night and it wouldn't make a difference load wise on the grid.

I do not think the load on the grid is really the concern in reference to the effects on the environment. You have to produce that electricity, which produces dirty emissions. True that it would not over load our system, but it would still create pollution.

If we had a clean energy source, then it does not matter at all.

I don't see this as a waste at all. A little light using energy efficient LEDs is perfect. The tree-huggers got to stop somewhere otherwise we'd all be living like mennonites.

What I mean is that electricity must be used at the same time as it is generated/delivered - you can't store it - use it or lose it. Afaik, the supply level during non-peak hours has a lot of headroom to make this activity a non-factor.

LEDs lights are what saved the L.A. LAX airport too.

If not for them, those pillar structures wouldnt be lit up anymore. Too much money and too expensive to repairs.

LEDs made it feasible for LAX as well.
