I live in the frickin woods, so there is no "scene" here at all - and thus no clubs. I could probably drive 2 hours and find a club, but it would mostly be some kind of ghetto breaks stuff, and no matter hard I try I cannot get into that stuff.

I would LOVE to find a club that plays deep prog, however. I'd drive a reasonable distance for that shit. If I wanna hear trance, I'll just step into the next room and fire up my TTs.

I disagree. I don't think that anyone could argue that the bass and kick and not much more prominent in todays trance than that of yesteryear.

todays trance = pop with bass and kick
older trance = trance

exaggerated on purpose

Well, it sure is a matter of personal preference, but I don't need any fat basslines and huge kicks to make me dance. What discourages me from dancing much more is when I have to stand on the dancefloor for like 2 minutes and listen to a song about the 'girl that got away'.

Anyway, to each his own.

i think it is.. trance clubbers tend to have shorter attention spans & welcome frequent breakdowns, since it gives them that extra bit of time to take a break from continuous dancing, reflect on the music & relish the anticipation of the buildup/climax. this is in no way intended at derogatory as i'd very much class myself a trance clubber

also while i'm no fan of 'the anthem' or indeed most current vocal stuff, the big singalong anthems where the whole place joins in can be a massive atmosphere booster, which has proved pretty dancefloor friendly in my experience. i can see your point that older trance is more dancefloor friendly in the sense that it encourages continuous uninterrupted dancing, but more recent trance is focused more on making people happy, which is arguably why most people go to trance clubs in the first place

I'm making the prediction that those of you who don't like the more mainstream EDM (eg. trance) will be the ones who don't go out that much.

Trance is probably the least represented style of music on the glasgow club circuit so because i don't listen to trance certainly doesn't limit my choice in nights out. There are probably 3 nights which book the big trance dj's and these are usually monthly, bi-monthly or quarterly, whereas I could go out any weekend of the year and find a night putting on dj's from the house, techno and electro variety of music..

I try and get out at least twice a month, usually to pressure at the arches and sub culture at the sub club, but due to a lack of funds what with being a student and having ibiza to save for, it's not too often I get out just now.

I just think what you said is a bit ridiculous and have never heard it put like that before.

it's something i've never really thought about until the topic was raised, in all honesty. it might seem a bit weird but i think it's pretty much the truth, when you consider why breakdowns in trance are so popular

That's crowdpleasing (giving the crowd what it wants), not dancefloor-friendly (catering to actual dancing). Slight difference.
