getting older doesn't really suck....there's a reason you stop going out, not necessarily because clubbing sucks, but because it's just not important to you. People make excuses for it becoming less important by saying it changed when in fact you've changed. Change is what you make of it, if you think change sucks, then it will. But if you embrace change and roll with it, you will find pleasure in the new things change brings. While those things you listed may be a drag, there is also a very satisfying sense of accomplishment that comes along with those responsibilities.

Right now the new is you, but someday not too long from now, you will gradually become the old and be cleared away. Sorry to be so dramatic, but it is quite true.

Being on drugs or sober has nothing to do with having fun. If u want to have fun on drugs pop some pillz and watch a youtube of pvd @ loveparade circa 1999. Now that I party clean I noticed I have a more objective view toward the night and really take notice when I hear something that catches my attention. I think drugs just dilute the whole experiance.

perhaps, but that wasn't my point. I was just trying to explain that the NYC clubbing scene isn't really the fault and it's not going anywhere. I threw in the drug part as a justification why clubs will stay around. Sure people can blow lines, pop pills, or down a liter of jack in their houses, but it's not quite the same as doing it in a club with a thousand other people.

Mostly because of responsibilities, necessity of sobriety, and big clubs sucking. However, I replaced club-going with bar-going with a different crowd of friends. From now on, it's small clubs (eg. friends' parties) or nothing. Also, next semester I'll be out maybe 3 times total because of my thesis.

It's true, peoples' lives and responsibilities do change; I think that's at least 50% of the reason.

Now you know what I was seeing and feeling when I was doing my partying circa 2003-2006. I never needed the drugs to 'enhance' anything, I would get high off the music and the vibe. Personally, I feel like the vibe has incredibly diminished. The music has lost its originality, seems like every producer is going for the same sound. I agree that the major reason why I stopped going, is cause I stopped caring about going, just wasnt important anymore. I guess I viewed it as a way to fill a void in my life. I still love the music, I listen to it all the time and I still spin. Ive settled down alot more, I like to just chill out, get wasted with some friends, talk about nonsense, listen to some great beats. Also the fact that Im trying to get into medical school right now might be a reason, but its probably the least of the reasons why Ive stopped going out so much.

I stopped for various reasons:

My feet can't take it anymore and going out to the clubs feels more like a chore. I don't find it that much fun to keep clubbing weekend after weekend anymore.

When I realized that the parties were in control I chilled a bit.

A year or two ago I'd be complaining to myself out loud about how I should be staying home and resting while getting ready to go out and party LOL! I'd usually be dead asleep on the ride over to about 85% of any event I attended over the past couple of years. 'Definitely signs that I probably should have been staying home.

I have some friends who are just getting into the scene, and I watch some of them go through the same types of things, hopping from 1 party to the next, to the next, when their bodies are clearly asking for a time out ... I don't know. I just can't do it up like that anymore.

Some people are talented enough to party all the time and still stay focused and excel in more important areas. Unfortunately, I'm not one of those people LOL.

I've come to find that some of the parties with the most substance musically, and the most awesome vibes don't take place on Fri/Sat/Sun..... OR they're parties that don't take place at clubs, like TA organized events (house parties/dinners/get togethers etc). Nowadays I try to pick and choose, and hit up BIIIIIIIG events every now and then rather than going to bunches of parties every week. Right now I have my sights set on I <3 TECHNO in November .

I do miss seeing everyone around all the time, but I guess I can't keep up like I used to

Ding ding ding...we have a winner!!!! Tell her what she's won Charlie

Yes seriously....you know sometimes people have better or more important things to do and don't have the luxury of going out, getting trashed and being carefree every night.

I go out when I feel like it and there is something of interest for me to attend. Even people with responsibilities need a little release now and then but I don't feel the need to go to every party just to say I was there.

If you have responisbilities and you don't attend to them with urgency and you go to every party and think the parties are your top priority then you are truly a mess and need to reprioritize. Yes it is a getaway for a moment or two but then it's time to get back to the real world of everyday living.

Evolve...I like that term. I so agree.

Its not getting older that sucks. Life is all about the journey, each stage of life presents its own rewards and things u let go of. Its the reason why no one can be a child forever or stay in the same stage of life...or keep clubbing forever. Or rather, one could...but it won't be the major source of entertainment. And its also just the way u look at things. Julian I happen to think u have a wonderful situation with your job and family and varying activities etc. Stable, and u enjoy life to the fullest. I def aim to have something even close to that one day

Personally I just tend to get bored incredibly easily when I happen to (over)do something -- the same has begun to happen with clubbing as well as of mid-2006 (I started around nov 2002 with two PVD parties 3 days apart ). And its been a hella ride. I mean we all have our opinions on when nightlife/edm was at its peak...ill have to admit that as of late, I am pretty much *thisclose* to retiring for MANY of my own reasons. A big factor being resposibilities, developing interests, that events have lost their 'ooomph factor' or moreover, the fact that usually when I stay out all nite the next day ends up being a total waste cuz I'm too tired and/or sick and it sorta ends up being a waste of a day/weekend. (This also goes for just plain staying up/out all nite).
There's def so much more I could be actively doing during a lovely saturday/sunday and this year I've def been choosing to be more proactive in terms of that (altho I differ from some in that I'm not into video games/xbox360 lol ) .

It sure doesn't mean I have lost my love for quality edm productions etc or appreciate them for what they are -- it will always remain my preference. I just won't go out actively anymore for them.

This is just me, no one needs to agree with it.

My life completely changed.. I used to out every single weekend, but gave it up for marathon running. It sucks sometimes.. I missed Armin at the Tobacco Warehouse for a weekend of running half marathons, but it was worth it because I set a new personal record. Sometimes I miss going out, but I love my life and it makes the times I do get to go out much more fun!
