As the above, If Far Cry was anything to go by, I think we won't be disappointed with this.

how right i was. the aliens in crysis are fucking attrocious from a gameplay perspective. the game was heaps of fun until then. im not sure ill ever bother to finish it.

The game was a lot of fun, but not without it's problems. Yeah the aliens were pretty annoying, but fortunately you don't have to fight them for too long as they only appear towards the end. The suit was pretty cool (reminds me of good old jedi knight), except that it's annoying as fuck when you go into speed mode and run out of energy after 0.25 seconds of running. The multiplayer is pretty crappy too. But overall I'd say the game is well worth getting. Just don't expect some innovative, mind blowing classic. It's just a fun game to go through once or twice. Enjoy it like you would a cliche action flick, because in many ways, that's exactly what it is.

It has it's tedious and annoying moments, but the good parts more than make up for it, and what's best is that the really good parts of the game aren't scripted. You can play the game a bunch of different times and have completely different experiences. First time I went through one of the earlier levels (near the beach head), I ended up surrounded by koreans and getting shot at from every direction, so I switch to speed and make a dash for the ocean. I take a glance at the surface and I see a speed boat patrolling by. Still in speed mode, I accelerate towards the boat like a shark and burst out of the water, emptying a mag in the driver, then I fall on the seat, accelerate towards the shore and ram the boat into a dock loaded with fuel tanks. I bail out moments before the whole thing blows up and takes out a whole squad of koreans along with it. You can't make this stuff up.

/\ What he said. It definitely isn't a mind-blowing experience, but it is none-the-less a fantastic game. Everything gets compared to HL1 and HL2, and with right reason. This definitely doesn't stack up as far as scripting, storyline, etc are concerned. The aliens are cheezy definitely. However, it is still a very well balanced shooter. It plays well, controls well, and is almost fully open-ended, in the sense that you can approach any tactical problem or situation via many different paths. Pretty much whatever idea you get, you can try. And considering the plethora of absolutely shitty FPS games to come out since HL2, this is a welcome addition to tide us over until HL3

I just wish it did not have such a lousy ending, and there was a good 10 hours more gameplay in the single player story. But then again, compared to the measly 4-6 hours of CoD4, it isn't such a bad thing.

The ending isn't lousy. It's just that there is no ending

The story is great. The aliens are ok I thought. Sure the little critters on the ground are a pain in the ass but if you use incindiery ammo they are fairly easy or you can just sneak past. The big ones are tough but once you get the Gauss gun they die in one hit. The alien weapon is pretty good too if a bit slow. Endless ammo too.

Really looking forward to Crysis 2.

2x1gb 800mhz

Yet again some fucking annoying hard to hit aliens who you're trying to shoot in zero G and take most of your hp in one melee hit. I consider the tiny aliens in the ice part more of a challenge than an annoyance. At least the gravity is normal and with incindiary ammo it's easier. If you have the rocket launcher or Gauss, the big flying aliens are cheese. If you don't, you're fucked. The VTOL flying sequence might have been better if the controls weren't fucked.

The rest of the game was pretty much a clone of far cry, which means basically it's one of the greatest fps's ever. The jungle parts are just so FUN to play. I've never played a game besides GTA that has allowed such freedom.

Ubisoft is going to be releasing Far Cry 2 in the near future. That, I expect, will be everything that Far Cry and Crysis were supposed to be in terms of gameplay. I've talked with a guy from Ubisoft and there will be no aliens, no mutants, none of that. The focus of FC2 will be entirely on realism. It's set in Africa. When you get hit you heal yourself by pulling the bullet out etc. You can light grass on fire and have it burn down a village depending on the wind. From what I heard you can start a brush fire. All sorts of crazy crap like that. The main thing is, NO MUTANTS AND NO FUCKING ALIENS.

nothing special really. (not high end at all)

E6750 cpu (duo at 2.66)
2 gigs of ram
Geforce 8800GT oc'ed a little (standard cooler)
some Abit Motherboard

I play it comfortably in 1152*864 with custom settings on XP, meaning everything you would see on vista except for a 40kb water shader that is dx10, but i think it actually looks worse than the dx9 one. The rest of the game is pure dx9, as in every single bit in the game is dx9 except for the odd shader here and there, that makes a difference only if you programmed it yourself and know that its there and what it does so you can look for it. The best part is that i rarely experience framrates lower than 20-23 which is very playable in this engine for some odd reason. Usually i would not put up with it, and concider a framrate between 20-45 to be on the very low side, but not in this engine...

But i wonder how well i will do when assasins creed comes out, it sets my system as MINIMUM requirements. It has to be the worst optimization of code that i have ever heard of.
