Right.

If you want to apply the border to the outside of your image, just do this:

Image > Canvas Size

Set the new size, in pixels, that you want your image to be. This will increase your canvas size, from the center, and will add a border around it. You can select the colour of the border at the bottom of that window, where it says "Canvas extension color"

that worked better than the stroke method.
going to run a test automation.

After re-reading the thread, I noticed I didn't include where the stroke option is in the menu.

It's Edit > Stroke (I forgot to mention it b/c I just use the keyboard sequence listed).

The above stroke command strokes a selection, so it doesn't necessarily have to be rectangular.

Changing the canvas size seems to be the fastest/easiest option, particularly since you want to add 2px to the outside. Note that the background color will essentially be the border color.

Glad you got it figured out. =)

i posted this same help issue on 2 other forums, both more in the field of "geek help."
this is the only forum that had knowledgable responses and quick.
i didnt doubt it tho, with all the photochopping, i wasnt suprised that the best help was here.
cor, where the dumbasses can actually be smart.

anyway, i figured out to take some original huge DSC camera imgaes and resize a ton of them to 800x600.
i automated that shit and it was great.
then i used your help here and automated to create a thumbnail for each image.

ill come back for more cs2 help, dont forget it.

If you are using CS2 for web-images (thumbnail and click to large images as well) they have scripts set up to fully automate everything from in the program or from a file:
http://www.amyaiellophotography.com...istic/index.htm

Something flashbased like this. It takes the fullsized image and 'makes it ready for web' and creates thumbnails and all.

well ive got that part done.
i took huge ass images, made them 800x600 and medium quality.
then i resized each to thumbnail size and applied a black border.
that really took no time at all with the automation shit.
as of right now, i have the pictures and their thumbnails.

i didnt want to post it in this thread but ill give it a whirl.
im using macromedia dreamweaver 8.
without macromedia fireworks, you cant really automate a "photoalbum" page that takes a folder of images, makes thumbnails, and applies links.
then you just edit the page and its looks.
so i am reduced to inserting each thumbnail, and linking each one.
not a hugely bad deal, i have shortcuts.
old school frontpage2002 let you insert more than one image at a time, then just thumbnail it and it linked it and all.
not dreamweaver.
anyone know a cheat for this in dreamweaver ??

back to image sizes.
all my images are 800x600.
during automation, i saved them as medium jpg.
file sizes range from 70kb - 120kb.
anyone has tips on reducing file size outside of jpg quality.
i have plaued with the "save image for web" in cs2 but not with any effective luck.

If you click

File --> Automate --> Web Photo Gallery (I think it is called that in CS2 as well... but I am running CS3 now so it may be named differently) it will do that for you.

All you have to do is upload and then on some page direct a link to the index page of the web photo gallery.

Not if you need the pictures a certain size... unless you wanted to do that and the resize again?
