it's redundant. There is only 1 timeline (per universe). If skynet killed Connor (impossible), the timeline (for that universe), still implies that Connor existed and was still a threat to skynet, thus needed to be assassinated. Time paradox. If Terminator 3 says Conner lived until 2036, then that's what happens.
Its the same as going back in time and killing your father or kicking your mother in the stomach before you are given birth(terminate yourself), etc. How then, do you exist?
There are always the creation of alternate universe to accommodate massive changes done by time travelers, but the timelines to individual timelines are always the same. Which is why if Liquid man had killed Connor, an alternate universe would've opened up where SOMEONE ELSE would be resistance leader and connor's original universe would explode or something.
