I can totally see your point there. They put this game out rated 18+ but sure enough every 13 year old boy in the fucking world wants it because its the latest cool game that all his friends have.
So you either are the dickhead parent who won't let them have the game or you cave and set your kid up with a game where you get points for murdering people. And the games now are a little different cuz the shit is very detailed with quality lifelike graphics vs. when I was a kid and you could barely recognize that the thing on the screen was supposed to be a person.
exactly. oh and i guess i didn't read it correctly. i thought it wasn't rated 18+
but yea...it just seems like the parents can never win, and that's something that most people/kids won't understand until they are a parent. of course every nonparent in their late teens and early 20's who sit around playing that shit all day are gonna be like, "omg! what a crock of shit man, bla bla bla"
i'm just being objective here though, i totally got a kick out of grand theft auto. lol my favorite thing to do was walk up and punch innocent bystanders.

GTA is superb. The missions don't interest me, however kicking the shit out of innocent bystanders and car chases does. It doesn't mean that I'm going to go out that night and kick the shit out of some drunk when the club closes.
I'm sure the majority are able to differentiate between real life and a mindless video game, but some people are already on the downward spiral before the video game is played by them, and it becomes something to blame when they are diagnosed with a problem.
Looking at it again, you cannot lay the blame soley at the feet of the parents, as kids can get these games from a number of sources ie. friends, relatives.
However, to sue games companies because they cause death is like trying to sue McDonalds for making you fat.

the key to video games having or not having an impact on how a kid turns out has some serious correlation to the blurred understanding of fiction vs reality. as a kid i was never scared by freddy, chucky or any of those types of movies. they just didnt and still dont scare me. the reason i wasnt scared was because i had always been taught from an early age what was reality and fiction. if your taught to distinguish this from an early age then violence in the entertainment industry (movies, games, music, etc et al) will not have any effect on you anyways. overprotectiveness can also skew a kids perception of things as he/she is not exposed to things they should be so they are not socially inept.

Very true. Video games are then classed as scapegoats and provide an excuse, when the problems are underlying and deeper than just games.

lol it happens...but it all comes down to the way in which you are taught the difference between fiction and reality. if you are always reminded that things in the movies are fake and would never happen in real life then you will understand from an early age that what you see in the movies is totally bullshit. it doesnt take away from the fact that its entertainment but its something thats always in your mind. this was instilled in my siblings and i from early on and only 1 of them is really scared of some stuff in movies.

that's not true at all. my mom did a pretty good job of explaining that stuff to me, but i was hypersensitive as a child with an extremely wild imagination. so yea...sometimes ur just born weird and fucked up. lol

Really the question to ponder is why do we as humans find it entertaining to watch movies and play games where the main theme is killing and hurting other people?
I dunno...I'm just as guilty as anyone of goin on a shooting rampage with the minigun in GTA and killing a bunch of innocent people lol. Maybe its a way for us to live out things that we know are wrong and would normally never do.
