tell me what you're trying to accomplish and i'll see if i can help(and i also came from sonar so i've had to get some work arounds put together for similar things) |
GURU is a Drumsampler and Stepsequencer. But youre right i recently started to have the drums in one miditrack but i have many of my own loops that i would have to convert. I am routing the different outputs of the drumsampler to different audiotracks to have different fx on them (like compresson or sidechain on the kick, different amounts of send-fx on different percussions). i guess that is how most people do it. i didnt say that theres something i cant do with abletons routing, in fact it is really easy with a few clicks. but at a certain point it starts looking messed up on the screen. this seems to be the tradeoff for all the other kick-ass features.
what i absolutely do not like about live is the way the midi oberdubbing works. the midirouting with in/auto/off is really annoying. maybe you can help me with this.
lets say i put a vsti on a track, i set the track to IN and play around with my midikeyboard. when i find something nice i activate recording and play. with the track set to IN i can only hear the stuff i recorded while recording is on. when i want to play it back i have to set it to AUTO. But now i cant try out additional stuff on my keyboard. i can only play along with the recorded stuff when i activate recording again, but then i cant try out stuff without recording it... i hope you understand what i mean.
same thing when i record some vsti stuff in midi and want to "practice" some cutoff tweakings before recording them. my only solution so far is to set the vsti track to IN, create another track where i put the recorded midiclip (this track set to AUTO and routed to the VSTi track) and another one to route the data from the midicontroller to the VSTi track, too. is there an easier way?
