well the telescope i have is nothing like what the real astronomers use. i mean, it's basically for just stuff in our solarsystem....not other galaxies and whatnot.

what kind is it ? Newtonian reflector, Galilean refractor ? Schmidt-Cassegrain ? What are t3h specs ? A simple to moderate telescope is sufficient to view the deep sky objects.

I was at a campout last weekend and I was utterly amazed at how clear the night sky was at the location there. Saw so many stars up above, many that I couldn't normally see back in town. I was content to see the sky with such clarity, but I was also a bit pissed off to know that all the pollution we've caused in the cities have hampered our view of the night sky. Just one of many things we take for granted.

i had a similar problem. got contacts and it was solved. glasses hinder the eyesight when it comes to dark objects. mostly because the way in which the light is focused on your eye. its because of that distance between the eye and the lens. too much light polution intersects this and fucks up night vision badly. get contacts or lasik. solves it all.

btw im -8 in both eyes with contacts. glasses -9.

Whenever I go to my aunt's house at the keys I like to go out on the balcony and just stay there for hours. Very relaxing.

Every once in a while I download one of the star maps found here:
http://skymaps.com/downloads.html

Word of advice... the map orientation assumes you are lying on your back, and not standing looking down at it!

My favourite find so far was identifying Auriga

It's also pretty neat looking through a backyard telescope and seeing a star resolve into a galaxy.
