I don't find this that too far fetched to be honest. I've seen a old colleague of mine before take a punch in the face before after SHE challenged a lad about his age when he tried to by alcohol. Mandatory ID would eliminate this sort of shit - If you make exceptions though then it's just a case of where do you draw the line - a 40 looking year old? a 30 looking year old? a 25 looking year old? After that you may as well just go back to square one.

That too, if someone complains you can just say "hey I have to ask everybody or I could get fired". Sure a 40 year old is a bit of a stretch, but by making the rule apply to everyone regardless of age, you eliminate the possibility of a clerk misjudging someone's age for whatever reason.

IMO we should just have it like in france where you can risk it because its not a big deal if you sell to a minor.

I'm not surprised. I heard you have to be 21 to buy tobacco products there too but i'm not too sure it's just something I heard.
