i probably have relatives there but i have no clue. great grandparents moved to the states and lost contact with anyone back there. this is good though. will put a lot of money into the local economy.

New Zealand couldn't organise a piss-up in a pub.
The snow there is amazing, but the surrounding towns are tiny. They'd basically have to build a whole new city to support the winter Olympic games. Also, the infrastructure on the mountains themselves is pretty underdeveloped.
...and, as Mr Eros was so kind to point out, it's the middle of winter down here now.

I think that it's great that Russia got the Olympics, Moscow lost the bid for the 2012 Summer Olympics so I think a Winter Games is a good consolation prize. Putin supposedly did a lot to push for these games. I've never been to an Olympic games and I would DEFINITELY like to go to this one because one it's in what I consider a dream vacation spot (um the Black Sea) and two I am partial to winter sports
