IMO Mauro Picotto is uplifting and techno 2gether
but tiesto, rank1, ferry and ATB.....
and mayb sum of the others u've listed that i've never heard.... r quite uplifting
AvB is IMO quite Hard Trance

I disagree on your mauro and armin ideas. I have about 10 vinyl from BxR that are of Picotto himself. Nothing uplifting in there. You dont think Armin is uplifting?? Have you heard Boundries of the Imagination? I still see all of his stuff as uplifting to semihard uplifting. Not straight up trance. remember he is rising star/perpetuous dreamer and so many others. There is no way some one can say that startheme is not uplifting. I love spinning that now!!!

Now here's something that has been bothering me for a while.

Hard Trance is apparently to diffeerent styles according to conflicting views.

Some say that the harder trance stuff out there (Dumonde) is Hard Trance.

Others say the hard house/techno area with trancey samples (Nick Sentience) is Hard Trance.

I refer to Hard Trance leaning more to the hard house style of things.

I class Dumonde and other such artists to be Epic Uplifting Trance.

Just my opinion.

Let's stop being so anal about genre classifications.

The word "uplifting" is a term used to describe a particular piece of music, and isn't really a genre in itself. It can be as easily applied to a Mauro Picotto set or a Dumonde set as to a Tiesto set. It's about the nature of the music, not the exact form the music itself takes.

So long as you know what trance music is, more or less, you can add as many qualifying terms to the front as you like. Uplifting trance simply describes a piece of trance that the listener finds uplifting, but it doesn't mean that it should be placed in a genre all on its own. Hard trance can be uplifting as can tech-trance, prog-trance, goa-trance or even house or techno music.

Just please stop being so obsessive about pidgeon-holing every sound into a particular genre with inexorable exactness and just enjoy the music for what it is.

thats the problem with today...we have to classify EVERYTHING into a certain group.

I've found that the reason everyone tries to classify all the genres, is so that we all know exactly what we mean when we say something.

So often I've heard of people saying that they like a certain genre, and I invite them to a party that is of that genre (from my perspective) and it turned out that their view of that genre was different.

I guess its just a way for us to try and simplify the communication of our love for the music.

ATB = RUBBISH

Besides that....i frankly don't care what ppl label deejays because uplifting, epic, hard trance, melodic..so on....i like the deejay or i don't. Genres are like labels......i don't like to label deejay because a deejay who plays epic could one day start playing prog trance, so who knows.

by not classyfying the genres you give no credit to the particular expertise of a certain artist...do you think ferry corsten or armin van buuren or paul van dyk (as producers not djs) would be happy if everyone decided to ignore genres and classify all trance as "elcectronic music?" I understand how it becomes annoying when people try to categorize music since the genres tend to become so percise that they are difficult to follow. But, its necessary to categorize so that we know what exactly people like. I like trance, trance is a form of electronic music and techno is a form of electronic music, but i dont necessarily like techno as much as trance. Do you see what i mean?

I think Mauro Piccoto"s style is considered more into hard house...Than trance or techno...
