i'm guessing it's some specialty or home-brewed deal. I've never had it, and it sounds gross. the colder & more carbonated, the better.

Its kinda like a wine deal... they are more flavorful, and are like specialty brews. Take Guiness for example, real Guiness is thick and isnt that carbonated.

Why would the ice make SUCH a difference for it to taste bad? I mean it's not like the beer will last long enough for the ice to melt and dilute your drink.

Well it would dilute the beer a bit too much but there's nothing wrong with that in wine. Haven't you ever heard of a Bevanda?
