being an essendon supporter its hard to admit this is true, but unfortunately it is. with a number of key senior players retiring in the next couple of years, essendon is not going to challenge for a premiership for the next four years. very sad but true.

in my opinion essendons drafting between 2000 and 2001 was very poor, if you look at the players that were drafted only a very small percentage are still at essendon and the players that are still there were not high draft picks. 2001 was supposedly a super draft and only andrew welsh is left at essendon from that year of the draft. granted essendon did not have any high picks but there were three picks above welsh that did nothing at essendon.

i think whoever gets the essendon coaching job will be in for a very tough gig because they are in a rebuilding stage but if the new coach cannot produce results then supporters will begin to wonder why sheedy was replaced.

agree pretty much 100% with that.

Whoever gets the new role will certainly be stepping into massive shoes. And, with an aging list, thats compounded. HOPEFULLY some of the younger stocks can step up ie jobe, patty, gumbleton etc and that we get a few more years out of mcveigh, mcphee, prevs etc etc we might be OK..

that being said, i dont think we'll challenge for a premiership but i think in the rebuilding stage, it should be better be be pushing for a finals possy i.e hawthorn 2 years ago, than in say richmonds posistion now. For experience.

But then, wats better in the current system?? Finishing mid field, maybe 8th and finals experiance for younger players, or finishing bottom and getting picks?

I think we're victims of the draft system. Either way its fucking bullshit, we're at least 5 years off and i hate it, i fucken hate it.
