When in doubt, do not post.

I'm not in doubt, I'm amused by the fact.

if he thought enough to have doubt, he'd never post in the first place. Unfortunately, his drivel is probably from a train of thought that doesn't make any stops along the way.

311, sublime, and alice in chains use a lot of chords that aren't your standard box shape. 311 & sublime use a lot of 7th chords and such, makes it sound really bluesy/jazzy. you probably already knew that though.

also, check out swervedriver. i suggest that band to everyone that likes old school hard rock/shoegaze/whatever. some of their music is pretty "ethereal" so to speak. i dunno.

another band that used a lot of strange chords/non-standard tuning was soundgarden. kim thayil used to tune his guitar in ridiculous tunings. i think his favorite tuning was dropped C or dropped B (dropped D is pretty standard in a lot of current hard rock). he also tuned his guitar to EEBBBB and EEEEEE which is.. unconventional, to say the least.

oh yeah check out tool of course, and to an even greater extent a perfect circle. APC's compositions are amazing.

smashing pumpkins also, pre-mellon collie & the infinite sadness (if you want to hear some really interesting guitar work).. i could go on and on. get "siamese dream".

ok 99% of nirvana's (and a lot of the early seattle grunge scene) music is based on power chords. terrible example dude.

opeth.

more about the progressions than the chords, themselves, but nevertheless...
