About the only sensible idea he puts forth in the book is that it would, indeed, almost certainly be possible to sustain a society without men 125,000 years from now. He's really going out on a limb there, given that at the current rate of scientific advancement, we'd likely be able to do that in, oh say, 1/1000th of that time.
The 10% of the book that actually deals with science is a perfect example of why pop science is a rubbish genre, and the other 90% might as well have been published seperately and titled "The Unintelligible Reflections of Bryan Sykes." |
