Israel has been attacked or was going to be attacked by at least 5 of its neighbors at least 4 different times its first 60 years of existance. For the last 30 years, Israel has been continuously attacked by rockets, suicide bombers, and gunmen. Does Iran have such a problem? I don't think so.

Does the Iran/Iraq war ring a bell?millions died in that war on the Iranian side. They suffered enough believe me I was there.
Now you have Americans surrounding them on every side and flexing their muscles.Shouldnt they be a little worry here?

I think the theocratic mullah system of government in Iran is a bloated corpse of itself, totally outdated with the times, in a country in which the average Iranian has no memory of the revelution, let alone the Iran-Iraq war. The ayatollahs are losing their grip a people who want their basic human rights. Therefore, the ayatollahs have to do something to maintain their power. Or else the government would be a secular government like its neighbors.

Tell me something that I dont know? Fear tactics has been their way of survival for many years. It is only a matter of time before they fail.

So what does a theocratic leadership do to maintain their power on a people increasing not caring about revolution and strict theocratic rule? They create an external enemy to distract the people from the truth.

If you are refering to America as an excuse for them to control their people I would have to disagree with you there. Many people there have access to satelites and they can see whats happening around them. The government call them them all they want on how evil America is etc but the people ultimatly make their own conclusions.
Keep in mind that more then 60% of the people there are under the age of 30 so they are not stupid.

That their own government is true problem. They go to war. Iranians are constantly reminded of the 'Zionist' threat, and of satanic america there to destroy islam. Propaganda is everywhere, on STATE-RUN media, in their mosques, by their president, and by the Grand Council of ayatollahs in their decrees.

Again the facts remains that the U.S has created chaos and instability in the region and the people see that themselves, they dont need the mullahs to do the fact checks for them.

quote:
Meanwhile, while the Iranian president tries to rile up the world over a secretive nuclear program, inflation remains at 15.8%. Unemployment is at 15% according to the Iranian government's own stats. 40% of the population lives below the poverty line! These are huge catalysts for anger, and reform. But the Old Guard will not have it, and so they focus the people's fears, anger, and frustration at external enemies egging them on to do something drastic so they can point their fingers and say, "AH HA! See, the West really is evil, look what they did. Jihad!"

I would have to agree with the fact that fear factor does play a role there but the decissions and actions taken by the administration has given them more fuel for the fire. They can actually go ahead and tell the people "see is what America does to spread peace and democracy".

Yea, it does, and I already rang the bell. PLease read everything in context, thank you.

Just because I dispise the Iranian regime doesn't mean I support the American one. I've made it known on this board that I do not approve of the current foreign policy nor do I agree with many policies of the past, such as American support for Saddam Hussein in the 1980's. I think it is insane we even invaded Iraq.

Besides this, the Iranian regime has carried on with the same anti-west propaganda ever since 1979!! Way before America was in Iraq. I will dare to say that both sides are provoking the other towards conflict.

Then why support them genious??

I view any government that does not afford their citizens basic human rights does so because they don't trust their own people. They would not have a need to plaster "Death to America" on major city streets in Tehran.

Agreed, the US has done some really stupid things over there, but even before the Iraq War, since 1979, as I said, the mullahs have institutionalized radical propaganda all over Iranian media. The primary examples are murals of "death to america" all over the place. But do Iranians really want Death To America? No, like average people, they just want prosperous lives and to be fairly treated. So why does the government chant these rantings constantly to the Iranian people, and why do they keep a supposedly peaceful nuclear program secret. If it's peaceful, why keep it a secret? It doesn't make sense.
-------------------------

I am going to assume you are from Iran or have some connection to it, so anything I say wouldn't persuade you either way. I just hate the Iranian theocracy and their lies and deception. But I also hate the American corporatocracy and its even bigger lie to go to war. America does have the power to move things in the right direction, but under the current administration, that won't happen.

Better than Iraq, where nothing has happened despite 10X that much going into it.

Yes, because the Islamic Revolution and it's agenda had nothing to do with that.
