I've seen some crazy custom interfaces that you just would never see without that sort of controller.

Sick photo.

agreed allied. the way i see it though stephan bodzin puts more use to the lemur using Max/msp and ableton live more than these 2 do...and personally I'm looking into getting the lemur myself so i can appreciate how much you can do with it. the problem is daft punk isnt doing anything different in the past 10 years other than using newer technology to do the same thing. if you look at BT using c_sound for live performance merits more points in my books than using a custom lemur interface to loop samples.

I can't see the super computers.

My bet is, since the Lemur has ethernet connect and has the ability to connect to computers in different locations, I'd think they're remotely connected to their studio PC's or something similar.

That's a pretty custom design for the lemur though.

I think the CD cover mentions that they have a lot of computer equipment backstage. So I'm guessing that's where the super computers are located.

totally agree.

Talking

I would wait for one of these super-computers to crash/hang-up/freeze/spawn some mischievious process etc.

I am sure the outcome would be a really innovative music. Trnnnnng.tronggggg..trennnnnnnnnnnnn..clunggggggggggg

Daedelus built his "light box" on his own. It's a one-of-a-kind custom job. The Monome was then designed by a couple other guys, based on that concept. He still uses his giant wooden thing, though.

Daedelus's is 16x16, in 16 4x4 groupings. The original monome is 8x8, but you could link a few of them together. They're making new ones, though:

the main difference, aside from the size of the actual buttons (daedelus's are each a little bigger than the eraser on a pencil & round, the monome's are a only a bit smaller than those on most drum machines & square), is the added functionality of the monome, where the 'light box' is just a fancy sequencer.

Does anybody know anything more about those Lemurs, though? I haven't seen or heard anything about any revisions to it, and that's clearly not the layout of the original.

thanks for that information inconspicuous! i learn something new everyday...

as far as the lemur is concerned its got a growing community (soon to be including myself ) the layout hasnt been changed at all recently but you can see all the details at www.jazzmutant.com . they release Dexter fairly recently following the 1.6 firmware update but that's pretty much it. apparently they've dissolved Jazzmutant as an independant body and is now the musical subsidiary of a multi-touch technology corporation. At siggraph they had a presence recently and are supposed to make some sort of anouncement soon. Also an up-and-coming update will bring dual-boot functionality to the hardware allowing both Lemur and Dexter systems to operate in the same hardware.

Cheers.

I actually meant the specific ones in the pyramid, since the lights are usually on the top right, & the logo on the top left (and it's longer horizontally than from front to back, so even if they'd just spun it around, the lights would still be on the wrong side, and in the wrong corner). Made me wonder if maybe there was another version in the works or if they'd just taken one apart & changed some stuff on their own.

Actually hadn't heard about the Dexter yet, though. Going to have to go read up on that. I've wanted a Lemur for a while, too. Probably the single coolest piece of equipment I've seen, but for $2600...it'll have to wait...heh.
