Most people do seem to think that Deep House is the form of house that has a lot of 'real' instrument useage and a definitive funky and soulful 'vibe'.
I would like to know if there is some sort of Deep House subgenre then, as I always thought these 2 tracks were actually deep house:

Jussi Pekka - Forced
Satoshi Fumi - Treasure

Are those 2 types of house actually Progressive House (or Deep Progressive House), and not as I understood it, actually Deep house?

Whenever im asked I say I like deep house. Thing is I only like the kind of deep house like the tunes I listed above, not the 'soulful' or 'singing' with 'real instrument useage' type of deep house that most people are associating with the genre.

There is where I am confused. As there seems to be a definate subgenre there for me of deep house. I just dont know what to call it, but obviously on a very informed forum like this one I should now at least be trying to find out what exactly it is called. To avoid the confusion.

I believe both the tracks you listed above are actually Progressive House and not Deep House. Don't be fooled by what beatport tells the track is, as a lot of the time they are wrong.

There are some 'groovy' elements to both tracks, but neither of them are very Jazz influenced so my guess stays with Prog house.

Yeah, I think I'll actually label them as 'Deep Prog House' for my own personal benefit in my archives of tunes on the PC (and in my head). No such genre exists it seems but it will certainly help me when trying to find tunes on the PC with that feel of those tracks.

Genre and subgenre, quite confusing for a layman like me who just knows what 'sound' he likes but struggles to actually find the tunes of that style easily heh. Subgenres have their use when labelled correctly it seems, I only wish sites like Beatport would use them properly. Would make my life and countless others easier for finding tracks I think.

I wasn't being terribly selective with my Prog choice, I just picked the first thing I could find on Youtube. Your example is decent, but if I could pick a signifying track, it would be Heller & Farley - Rising Sun (Bedrock mix). It doesn't get anymore prog than that.

Here's a good way to differentiate the two:

Deep House is jazzy, soulful groovy stuff made by black people in Chicago and San Francisco.

Progressive House is drolling, monotonous stuff that's too stiff and unresponsive to be deep, soulful or funky, made by white people in Europe.

Not really. If anything, the advent of McProg (such as Whiteroom) has re-seperated prog house and trance so they sound distinctively seperate again. There were only really two times when prog trance and house sounded much the same. The first was about 1995, and the second was about 2001.
