anyone who has listened to lawler between 2000-2005 knows how fucking good he was - global underground, deep tribal house mixes ... those are club destroying sets

with time comes evolution (unfortunately?) though, some like it, some hate it but when he does play those ultra rare tribal sets from now on, treat it like a real delicacy!

has anyone else gone through the electro phase really really quickly??
i hated electro house at first, then started to like the dirty grimy electro tracks, and now it has quickly worn off on me

for me rigth now im heavily into dark tribal and techno, i wonder if techno will grow more popularity in TO? imagine techno only parties at the guv lol - one massive cardio session knowing us

I agree with this...except I wouldn't use the words "backlash" or "reaction to"...I think people learn from the genres, get tired of them, take elements and create something new. Most of these new genres get incorporated in one way or another as the house music co-evolves. Techno today is minimal techno, not the techno of 10-15 years ago which is horrific to listen to now. Min techno has complexity in it that techno of a decade ago did not...much of this texture comes from what has been learned in EDM from other genres such as progressive and electro. Now, I'm beginning to hear local min techno DJs starting to play in a much more progressive style as well, which will make this genre more accessible to a wider audience, IMO.

Personally, I think progression is a very important part of the continuity in a DJ's set and helps tremendously in gluing together the story. The Progressive genre is well suited to incorporate new styles /genres as they become available, be it tribal, min tech, electro, trance or whatever comes next...and therefore, and evolving Prog genre remains my favorite to dance and listen to. That is why Lawler remains one of my favorites DJs...be it Tribal, electro or minimal...he is still a prog DJ to me.

Not breaking your balls on semantics Jon Jon (I believe that is the appropriate word here, not syntax) but pointing out that "getting tired of something" is quite different from a "backlash" or rejection, especially in this context.

A backlash is a strong word for outright rejection and reaction in some opposite direction...I don't think that is true here in the case of co-evolution of EDM. I am making the point that although we may get tired of these forms as listeners, DJs, or producers, they still become an important part of our musical psyche and influence the way in which we listen to and create subsequent genres. That is why most of these genres eventually blend.

haha semantics, you're right.

I guess it's hard to say and I can't really speak on behalf of every dj/producer or musical trendsetter. But for me sometimes it actually does seem like a "hatred" for said past genre.

An interview where Sasha was talking about "that kind of trance" that Ferry plays comes to mind, and how prog came out of it. Or a lot of the neo techo dj's of today really having no desire to hear Fedde Le Grand ever again.
