Edit:

Actually, I'm not even going to go there. Let me just say that the track isn't about to change bar some minor adjustments and mastering (it hasn't actually been mastered at all).

Palm - I could very well be up for that, though I must admit I'm not extremely familiar with your work. We'll talk business when I have a bit more time

Hey man, I just had a glance through the rest of the thread and the other comments echoed my thoughts more or less.

The clap is nice, but its a little loud, theres a second clap or snap or something which just glares out a bit, and I think its this thats bothering me mostly. Something in the verb maybe? Its prominent at about 1:30 anyway...

The opening pads are really nice, and the entire song is extremely understated, almost jazzy feeling - as was already mentioned. This is definately a good thing and the song certainly has a certain place in a set. But its not a dancfloor rocker where the crowd will have their glowsticks out!

The bassline sits in a really nice place too, even if it is generic, I think its so well done you can get away with it.

All in all a very nice atmospheric track, I really like it, it doesn't neccesarily need anymore work I don't think. I should say that its not really my style, but its still very well executed and it definately has its place.

A very classy bassline. That intro sample/pad is very dreamy. I want to touch it, but I can't.

There's some interesting wumpy-ness going on behind the bassline, about a third of the way in. Your kick and bass are well mixed, and getting along nicely.

Ah. There's that subbass kick thing i was hearing earlier. Nice distorted pad. Almost sounds like something in Albino 3, like... boosting the filter saturation.

This is definately proggy. But good. Lots of "modern" prog (that doesn't make sense by the way) tries to do too much. Have you noticed that? Doing everything it can to be super fancy and filled with crazy FX with no love for just a good groove.

This however does have a good groove.

Again, some good sounding stuff Mr. Mystery, and also again, thank you for taking a listen to my recent little adventure into something that isn't psy.

----Adam

Oh yes I have, and I have to admit I'm sometimes guilty of that myself. That's why I wanted to try something different.

Although this is really not the type of thing I would normally listen to, I thought it was a decent track. Some interesting instruments kept it alive for me.

Considering this started out as a cpu test I think it's really cool.

Lieb is where it's at, always been my biggest inspiration. I was definately feelin' this track. Really love the bassline and the background "claps" and "precution thumps". Well done.

I'd definitely play this - love the subtlety. This is an understated track without sounding unfinished, which is a difficult but sublime balance. It's something I certainly wish I could pull off.

My only criticism is that the pad could be more continuous. I know it was a deliberate thing to repeat it every 8 beats but I think it would be more effective as an atmospheric track with a 32 beat looping pad rather than an 8 beat. I also realize you aren't going to give this a second thought, but what the hell.

If you are going to do it as an 8 beat pattern, my suggestion would be a bit more transformation in the sound over its 8 bar life, maybe like a collapse and expansion of the sound around the loop point, an inhaling/exhaling, as opposed to a simple 'replay'. I hear the beginnings of exactly what I am talking about but it doesn't seem to push the idea to the point where it's legible.

edit: also, I actually think the "cold" reverberant synth in the middle of the track could be a bit less understated in terms of scoring. Maybe just the downward interval every 32 beats for a while before it starts modulating on a more active pattern. I think this actually weakens it a bit.

The oliver lieb influence is apparent and lovely. It also reminds me of a faster neurotron.

No offense to some of the posts here but I get the impression they're 'wanting' something different out of what you intended, comments trying to pull it in the direction of something they find more favourable.

For me, it's great - more intricate details are needed though, subtle blending, movement. My take on this track is that it needs to keep the listener interested not in a 'hey, check out this change' sense but in more constant sense of tamed and eased development.

The strong prominent bassline is great, I feel it makes the track in many ways....the track doesn't lose itself to 'sameness' with other prog-like tracks. It's just the slightly bit too 'raw', could do with being dulled that slight bit, contained if you like.

The distorted pad, for me, needs to be slightly more wispy...immersed in the track - there's a rawness about it, I used the word 'contained' before and that might perhaps be what I'd like to see again.

All my opinion though and in fairness you have mentioned it was just an afternoon's work. I don't listen to so much music these days, I've found the world of electronic music to be bland and sterile. This track, however, I did find myself enjoying - even in it's relatively rudimentary state (I hope!). Thanks for sharing it.

I shouldn't had even mentioned the amount of time I spent on this as everyone seems to get hung up on it.

this is exactly the kind of prog i like to play towards the start of my sets. sounds like something subtraxx would put out

it's simple, kind of a setfiller more than anything.. so can't really see the need to disect it up a huge amount for the sake of feedback. i'll just say that it works, and that i'd be interested in hearing any future material along these lines

TBH I don't think I'll be wasting much more time with this, I'll just jump straight on to the next one.
