DJM400 better than the Xone32? Funny.

It doesn't even have balanced outputs, a record out, or a booth output. It's an entry-level bedroom mixer, unsuitable for use at a venue. That puts it in the "toy" class... Or in pioneer's marketing terms, "entry level"... Which is fine if you don't plan on it ever leaving your bedroom, I suppose.

At $550 (from guitar center, maybe you can find it for less online?) It's also grossly overpriced for a 2-channel toy. I think I might cut myself before I spend that much on a 2-channel box that doesn't even have proper connectivity to do much with.

The 400 a toy? While i'll admit the connections out are lacking for a club, it's not the end all be all and it certainly doesn't characterize it as a toy.

I don't think many clubs would install a 32 either.

They're both at the smarter end of the home-use range of mixers - I wouldn't call either a toy and I don't think they're necessarily "entry level" either. More a case of being suitable for just about any DJ who just wants a simple mixer to practice on at home, amateur or pro (bear in mind not all pros do 3 or 4 deck mixing with fx all over the shop - a lot of them could practice on the simplest of boxes if they like!)... the sound quality's resonable enough on both of them, you could even just use them as a phono stage to play some records at home!

Thats a bit closed minded calling it a toy don't you think? So some people can't afford $1k+ mixers and that means there not serious about there mixing? meh

I think you forget about what DJings about, Some people i know have started out on some of the WORST gear possible.. And now you hear about those djs in magazines because there well known DJs who have used those 'toys' seriously and have made a name for themselves using them.

And its not just articles iv read like this, I know these kinds of people. One of my good mates is now a resident DJ who handed me down his 'toy' mixer. (Behringer DJX700) Because he used it so well that he won himself a Xone 62 with a mix he made.

They didn't pay $550 for that first mixer either... And I'd bet it had a record out so they could atleast record their mixes while they learned, even if only on an old tape deck from 1989... like i did at first.

I have a question, related to the topic. I have a DXM06 and it has 2 channels, BUT it also has 2 additional "PHONO" channels. There are switches on the mixer to switch betweeb "LINE" and "PHONO" inputs. In essence, couldn't this be used to connect additional devices? Sure, you can't use 3 or 4 channels at once, but it still seems to be a reasonable alternative to a more expensive 4ch mixer.

it'll work but if you wanna expand you're gonna have to shell out more cash.

i have a 3 channel and i always wish i had 4. 4 cdj's, or two cdj's and two vinyl decks on their own channels, or 2 cdj's and two traktor decks, ableton, etc etc.

First of all, the 400 isn't 550.00 unless you're an idiot. If you did the research you tell others to do, you'll know the general going price from authorized dealers is 450.00 to 500.00, and much less from unauthorized dealers like ebay (You can grab a new one for as low as 300 bucks plus a little shipping).

Secondly, the term "more capable" is a personal one. Who is to say what makes a mixer more capable? It' not just about channels and connections dude.

A far as I can tell, those two things are the only advantages the two mixers you posted above have over the Pio.

Just because it hasn't got a record out doesn't mean you can't record...

My first mixer had a booth out and a master out, I used to record with the master out and use the booth out for my monitors. Then the master out died, so I had to make do with the booth out - routing the booth out to my PC (well, originall my tape deck) then to my speakers meant I could both record and monitor from a single output. It's hardly rocket science!

Well, the inputs are switchable, it's either phono OR line. You can connect still, but you'll hear only one of the sources.
