I must be lucky, mah Maxtor has been going 16 months under a dusty desk on the carpet, no problems!
My external hard drive failing is pretty much the only thing that concerns me long term right now (you'd understand if you saw how much effort has gone into my music collection).
I'm going to buy a second one to back up to.
