unless you are coughing up blood, vomiting, or having explosive diarhea (sp?) you're expected to stay at work (i.e. no going home sick because of a headache or something simple like that).
as far as calling in sick, you better have the same items as above, or be in the hospital. |
haha... that was definitely the truth...
i left work to go to the doctor one day b/c i had a 102 fever, this was only after telling my boss at 530am in person that i was sick... i had to tell him face to face and then it was his call to let me to go the doctor at 7am...
the Army doctor put me on 24hr quarters, but not before my boss made me MC a ceremony before 100 people and 3 Colonels... i felt special to get the rest of the afternoon off...(technically i was allowed to leave, but in my boss's eyes since i was there i might as well take one for the team and stay a bit)
broken colarbone and broken foot was just a 30min leave to get the doctor to write me a profile explaning why I wasn't allowed to do PT (physical training) as if each cast wasn't enough...
but yeah like Will said... 30 days paid vacation a year and whenever there is a federal holiday the military goes ahead and makes it a 4-day... so i guess that means like 40+ paid non-hoiday days off a year and there are also Passes which are days off that your boss allows that wont count against your given 30 days off... and i was able to use 10 of those this year... and those 30 days of regular leave do rollover..
both this year and last i took 60+ paid days off..(my days ON though this year though were 5am-7pm mon-fri and 5am-2pm sat, excluding the nights we had to sleep out in the field)
but that was then... pre-out of Army status...
with scheduled raises/promotions regardless of performance (pratically unless somebody died), free full health care, and extra pay for living expenses and rent,... 80% of the military get even extra pay each year for uniforms and for having kids/dependents...
I know i rambled on about military perks... all of it wasn't worth it... I'd rather go back to Iraq than be in the Army state-side...

It's so easy to fall into a submissive position at the workplace...I know all too well. Don't sell yourself short though - that's honestly what success means, to me at least. It's not really too important how much you make (within reason, of course) but whether you enjoy your job or not. On that note, people who say things like do what makes you happy in life really irk me, haha. Like, it's not so easy to land a great job that pertains to your exact interests in life - trying and all that is cool, but being content with the job you have is not such a terrible fate at all.
Not many people deserve to be stuck at a job that they absolutely loathe going to each day. You're likely not one of them. :P |
i don't like to bitch about my job because it seems to be the only thing i'm doing lately. anyways i'm in debt and i'm taking a semester off to get that shit taken care of. this job pays the most i've ever been paid before so i want to stick with it. HOWEVER, it takes me an hour to get to work, and i have to wake up at 4:30am every morning soo...
also, unlike 90% of you who posted in this thread, i don't work in a cubicle or whatever. factory work ftl. so no, i don't enjoy my job, but it's the only thing i have experience in (and is therefore hard to find a different, cleaner job). vicious cycle.
