If you want to live thousands of years you'll live on a hot planet with people fighting for resources. You might even experience the sun turning into a red giant (or whatever it's called) where you will have the unpleasant experience of burning to death. People are pretty much the same across time, yeah they'll change a bit here and there, they'll probably make cool things but that doesn't fascinate me. No thanks to a extra long life...plus if you believe in an afterlife there might be cooler stuff there.
