I personally think S Korea should have just left them there and tell them, "We told you idiot so!" The Taliban would not have been encouraged like they have been with the ransoms. I think every foreigner who decides they want to go to Afghanistan should be told by their government that they go at their own risk, and there will be no help from the home country if something bad happens.

Wow.
Did the South Koreans just pull a 'psyche' job on the Taliban?
Awesome.

Taliban says S.Korea has broken promise

Published: Sept. 3, 2007 at 1:43 AM
KABUL, Afghanistan, Sept. 3 (UPI) -- The Taliban vow to attack South Korean facilities in Afghanistan if Seoul does not keep a promise it made to secure the release of hostages, Yonhap reported.

The Islamic fundamentalist group claimed South Korea has not withdrawn all its citizens from Afghanistan as promised in the recent hostage release talks, the Yonhap report said Monday.

The Taliban abducted 23 South Korean church volunteers in July. Two of the hostages were later killed. Of the remaining 21, two women were subsequently released and the remaining 19 were freed last week.

Yonhap quoted Qari Yousuf Ahmadi, a purported Taliban spokesman, as saying his group had received information that some South Koreans were still in Afghanistan.

"If South Korea has broken its promise, then we will attack the South Korean embassy in Kabul and education facilities supported by Seoul," Ahmadi was quoted as saying.

The Yonhap report said that in the hostage deal, South Korea has pledged to pull its 200-strong medical and engineering unit out of Afghanistan by year’s end, withdraw other citizens, and stop isits by Christian missionaries.

Christian missionaries in Afghanistan? Are they freaking crazy!? Though I believe in a supreme creator, I totally disagree with Christian missionaries going to Afghanistan. Islam and Christianity are two different views of the creator, and one trying to convert the other in his own territory is not the right way to spread their message.

By this logic, missionaries should not attempt to convert anybody, simply because non christians follow a different belief system which is no way superior or inferior to christianity. They use every trick in the book to convince you of the superiority of their religion. Seriously, what are they even thinking ? The only thing missionaries strive for is conversion.

The South Korean hypocrite government decided that it would rather save 21 of its own religious idiots all to kill many more other innocent people from the 20 million bucks. Thats pathetic. I.e. I dont give a shit about anyone else (women, children, innocent civilians), but my idiots who ignore warnings deserve to live. Now how many people are going to die when Taliban spends 20 million bucks on cheap Chinese weapons?

They should have left them there as a lesson to anymore idiots thinking about going to Afghanistan on a missionary trip. If they want to do that, they should have at least gone to a country where they would've been welcomed.

The thing is, completely ruling out any compromise with Taliban would've done many good things - other missionaries would likely not be targeted, knowing that Taliban would not achieve anything trying to trade them, and on the other hand its a lot of work for Taliban to hide these and follow arrangements. I say NATO should have instead went from village to village looking for Taliban, driving the out, showing every reason for Taliban not to do this kind of action again because not only would they not suceed, but they risk losing more just trying to negotiate. It will only be too risky and too expensive for terrorists to continue to take hostages knowing that they wont get anything for them.

Because now Taliban will most likely attempt another brazen hostage taking again ... Iraq is a great example of how so many countries were forced to pay out a lot of money, strengthen the terrorists and lose political positions at home and in Iraq when dealing with those people. As sad as it might sound, giving it to the terrorists demands is a big victory for terrorists.

The resistance might be fighting a war, independence movement, terrorist war or serving someone else's agenda, but giving in to hostage takings only makes things worse for other would-be hostages.
