Depends... Tracks like Energy52 - Cafe Del Mar have been remixed a few too many times. Theres only ONE mix ive heard that comes close to the quality of the original [aka kid pauls mix] and thats Michael Woods Ambient mix. Even the Oliver Lieb mix is terrible, and everyone knows how much I rate him.

Having said that Liebs mix of Universal Nation, made the original sound ordinary in comparison. TILTS remix of Children is another one that did the same. Thats what good remixers do.

It doesnt matter whether its a remix done 2 years after the original or 10 years, it should sound better or at the very least, it should give you a different feeling from the track.

meh, its all trying to polish a turd isnt it?

its the same thing with covers: if you are trying to imitate the original artist, you are essentially doing nothing. its about your own interpretation. a cover should be how you feel the song should go, you might feel it needs a different tempo, a restructured chorus etc or different timing. it shouldnt be just a rehashed imitation. or in trance terms, a different bass and kick and a few more cheesey synths. an ambient mix of cafe del mar is a good example of a good remix. those born slippy ones are examples of bad.

making a trance remix of a goa song from 10 years ago is slightly different to making a trance remix of a trance song from 2 years ago. i dont like them on principle. there are some remixes of old tunes that sound good. but most of them dont add anything. i think the greg downey remix is a good example, as is the oakenfold remix of born slippy. why put that energy into making a tune like that and then just copy and paste the old breakdown into it? why not just make a new tune? far out.

Pharmacy loved Greece, sounded ace in there.

Digweed - Warung Beach is a sick tune. Mashtronic's White Sands Remix is whole other sick tune too. It's a stunning example of a well done remix, it's same, same but different
