yeah, b/c the world cup is every four years and the super bowl takes place over one day. It's a record for an "annual" sporting event, so that could be a bit misleading. Still, 24000 people watching tennis is amazing in itself. That stadium is HUGE.

Federer has stated that he doesnt want to retire till AT LEAST 2012... hehe we got atleast another 5 years out of him... that puts him at 30, 31, which is a respectable age... but I think he can go the way of Agassi and keep busting records until mid thirties. Agassi held the no. 1 spot in 2003 or 2004 (forget which year) when he woudl have been 32 oe 33 I think after the Aussi Open, so still very possible and likley for Fed.

I think Fed will one year in fact win it, and get that notch on his belt.

Now, once he retires (pretend its even earlier than 2012), do I think those ppl will step up and dominate like he did?

Roddick -- NO CHANCE IN HELL. He'll have one less person to oust him, sure, but he wont dominte. Him and Hewitt, as an example, are examples of players who are very good, top notch tennis players, but still wont ever be of the like of Agassi, Sampras (belch), Federer! (to pick from the most recent insanely good consistent over time players)

Nadal -- Yeah, kinda. Def on clay, he'll now have like NO challengers to compete w/ him... and on grass/hard court... not sure... I think he could have a good rivalry w/ another player, but dont think he'll dominate those surfaces. I still think Nadal may end up killing his tennis lilfe early with the type of tennis he plays and the # of tourneys he plays in. The way he plays is SO INCREDIBLY hard on the body... all that top spin he generates... and all teh running arodnd he does...

Djokovic -- oh yea! I think thsi guy could dominate on all surfaces but clay. hes good. so powerful... has incredible potential.

Its for an "annual" event. Yes, the biggest.

So if something happens every 4 years or something (like world cup soccer) then thats different.

Its only of sporting events that happen once a year every year!

Yeah my money is on Djokovic, Nadal's knees will get worst and worst as he gets older.

Yeah I just started getting into tennis, I didn't like it when I was younger, but now I play every chance that I get. I'm still new at it, so yeah still a lot of learning. Do you guys suggest learning from an instructor just to get proper techniques and form? Or it's not worth the time and learn on your own?

Oh, ok. Well I guess not. The stats were said numerous times over the last couple days.

This was the largest attended annual event ever!

Yes it does, but the US Open is in the SAME AREA. Every year. The champions league, and it's teams, can be theorecitcally different every year, so in a case like that, they cannot call it an Annual Event in comparison to the US open.

I hope that made sense.... geeve.

some replies are too funny in this thread....roddick to dominate after federer retires in a couple years?

i miss TA sometimes with this kinda entertainment

as for today, feds despite losing to novak three weeks ago in montreal in 5th set tiebreak classic, proves that he's the most clutch player tennis has ever seen. he will win French before he retires that is a guarantee and he will break pete's record next year.

Agreed (with the Roddick comment lol!)

I have NO DOUBT he'll beat/destroy Sampras's record, starting next year.

And yes, fed even not playing near his best STILL comes thru shinning... in teh clutch fed just ALWAYS has it.

You know Fed's never been my fave player, but prolly the one I still have hte most respect for, after Justine of course. I believe she is almost as equally brilliant on the woman's side with what she faces and overcomes (not hte least of which is her small frame and small stature... she's been the ONLY constant in the woman's side of things on teh WTA who been around in the #1 position since 2003 onward!

LONG LIVE AGASSI though... having him there w/ the boys for the Fed semi final match was INCREDIBLE.... man I love Agassi... miss seeing him compete so much Vlad

This guy has EVERYTHING it takes to be a major force for many yrs to come.
He and Nadal will be REALLY interesting in the yrs after Federer...

I wont blab about Roger anymore, cause i blab more about him more than anybody.
The results speak for themselves.
The incredible shots only HE makes speak for themselves.
And his unmatched classy demeanor speaks volumes.

Keep watching this living legend.
