Does anyone here use the KRK rockits for normal PC use. I.e for watching movies and playing games? How do they rate against, let's say, logitech z55500's?

The KRK's produce FLAT sound geared towards production. The logitechs would suite you much better for movies.

I own a pair of Event TR8s, and they're great. I bargained the down to 200 a piece(250 usually for one unit), so for the price, I can't complain.
Sound is rich and clear. For home mixing and listening, I'd say these are the best around.
They look good too....all black with a shiny wood finish.

I have a pair of Event TR8's that I use at home. They ran me $200 apiece because the owner of the local music shop likes me.

I also have a B-52 Matrix 1000 setup for house parties. It's powered, 700W, and comes with two 10" satellite speakers and a 15" sub. Travels well and thumps like hell. (Ha, I rhymed!) It ran me $850 on Guitar Center but people raved about it... so I bought it. Haven't regretted the purchase one bit.

i use them as my standard pc speakers (pc -> djm500 -> krk's) for radio and watching tv eps on my pc and they seem fine

logitechs might be better for that sort of thing but if i had the choice it would be some krk's anyday, my RP5's are sweeeeeeeeeet

Currently using a pair of 700 watt 3 way Wharfedale's along with some sony v6's.

Hopefully I will get some rp8s before I ruin the foundations of my house with all the vibrations.

Correct me if i'm wrong.... I will not be able to connect self amped speakers to my DJM400 - they need a 1/4" connection, right?

The only 1/4" jacks on the DJM400 (judging from your picture) are for microphones.

You would have to use RCA (the red/white pairs) cables to connect to your speakers.

"Self amped" speakers just means the speaker has its own internal power supply/amplifier. These are also referred to as 'active' speakers.

Speakers without internal power supply/amplifier are called 'passive' speakers. These require an external amplifier in order for the speakers to work.

The type of connection a speaker uses (1/4", RCA, XLR, etc.) is usually independent of whether the speaker is active or passive. You would just need to have the right cable to connect to your speaker (active) or receiver/amplifier (passive).

Hopefully all of that made some semblance of sense.

To make it simple.
As long as the speakers or amp don't ask for balanced connections, you can just get a cable that is RCA at one end and 1/4" at the other.
