EDIT another way to cut costs is to text off your pc.. doesn't cost anything but the receiver has to be informed that (it came) from you. Faster, cheaper and so on.

I don't like being glued to a cell either.. just have it on when you need to and text off your pc. Pay as you go.. no contract and no extra billing surprises.

and then for any long distance, get those cheap calling cards from those convenience stores.. $5 a pop and they last up to a year (I think). You can use those cards at doity payphones during business hours and stuff (to save on airtime).

Personally, I wouldn't do that student rate (mind you I was so poor as a university student, that at times I couldn't even afford to pay attention )

I got a great story about Rogers.

My dad has been paying a fee for equipment, that he hasn't had in many years. The amount he paid to Rogers is 10x the amount then the cost of the actual phone from god knows how many years ago.

All I can say never go with those stupid 3 year plans and what not. Buy the phone first and get the plan.

I love how Canada we can pretty much have monopolies and yet it is okay.

cant go a day without my cell phone. think that thing has become a part of me. whats with everyone signing there life away on these 3 year contacts just so they can get a free phone. think your better off waiting a little longer so you can buy a phone up front then activate it. and if anything comes up just cancel your service. sorry back to the topic, i get jipped almost every month with fido. my plan is $25 yet somehow i end up paying $60 every month. pretty confused...
