that was a decent read. I was also surprised by the 'I haven't been a trance DJ for 2 years' comment. That seems ridiculous. I sort of agree with whoever mentioned he doesn't seem happy. It's almost like you get the feeling he hasn't been too excited with the music he's been playing the last few years.

I love how PvD says "There isn’t anything that actually is stereotype trance music on there and I don’t think I ever did it. "

and right after the interviewer asks "How was it like working with Jessica Sutta, a pop singer, who had never sing to vocal trance before?"

Also, the interviewer really wasn't able to maintain a good interview, it really seemed like Paul Van Dyk was bored most of the time. And too many useless questions relating to the same subjects...

every review I've read with PvD have been like that. That is his style. He always seems very bored and uninterested. Well you can't blame him getting asked the same questions in every country you land in.

I never voted for Paul van Dyk for the DJ Mag Top 100 DJ Contest. Because I don't like his attitude. He, Digweed, Sasha and Paul Oakenfold are in same field. They are not that interesting to talk to, unlike the Dutch DJs such as Ferry Corsten, Sander van Doorn.

As a disclaimer, I am in no way defending the DJ Mag poll with this post. However...

When you vote for a DJ in a "top DJ" poll, shouldn't it be based off of exactly what the poll says, which is their DJ'ing "ability" and not what they say in an interview?

I know. I'm not blaming him, I'm blaming the interviewer for asking classic and off-topic questions.

I've never had the chance to talk to PvD but he was really nice at 1015 in SF last time. Digweed is really nice off the decks and just concentrates during his set much like SvD with much less crowd interaction of course. Oakenfold gave a bad vibe last time and please dont put him in the same category as Digweed! Ferry and SvD are extremely nice too, on and off the decks. I like that PvD is always real and none of that 5 minute jesus pose or random smiles that feel so fake like a certain Dutch DJ that will likely get #1 this year. I recall NYE 05 in Vegas meeting a girl who interviewed both Tiesto and PvD a few days back (both were in Vegas for NYE) and said PvD was her most favorite person to interview so far. It also really depends how much a person is traveling especially someone as big as PvD.

Paul has always been a bit arrogant, and oftentimes doesn't like to label himself a Trance DJ. Yet that's exactly what he is.
And what kind of record did he think he was going to make with someone from the PCD if not a Pop one?

At the same time, I love his sets, and I love the fact that he gives a damn about the world and is involved with charities. He's involved with making education a priority in Germany, and he's someone who doesn't take democracy for granted.
