You're right.

FromAbove, read the Production FAQ, I think point number 8 could be what you're looking for. Or use the search function to see whether this question has been answered recently.

logic is definately considered the best sequencer for dance music.

i use cubase and have been told many times by many different people that i should move to logic. the output has that slight nicer feel to it and generally the way it works is better suited to dance production.

pro tools is seems to be considered as something for live recording of real instraments more than dance music sequencing. many say it is not efficient for dance sequencing.

as said though, its not the sequencer - its the skills used.

There was a time when most guys I looked up to worked with ProTracker on the Amiga... 4 tracks max... those where the days
My first sequencer could already do 16 tracks though. With my bad ass 16Mhz computer (40Mhz when turbo mode was switched on!!!)

Khayat, can you just list for us, from the most recent top 250 djs list, those dj's who also produce tracks, what software they use? That way we can see for ourselves that "90% of the Big ones use Logic".

If you can't provide the list, provide a suitable explanation for the 90% figure.

(edit - it doesn't have to be the top 250. It can be the top 10 or 20, if that'll make it easier. Or how are you defining the "Big ones"?)

In response to the original question - I don't know what those two in particular use. Is there a reason you only want to know what those two guys use? It doesn't matter what other top producers use? Because fantastic sounding tunes have been made with every piece of software and hardware out there. You work out what works for you personally. Try out software demos, try out synths, work out what will work for you.

Well hehehe I only ment that its the best DAW (Sequencer) out there
used by Above & beyond Andy moor Sean Tyas BT Blank & jones and I can remeber seeing Tiesto using it

Oh? Well if tiesto uses it then I guess it must be good! Did I tell you that the other day I put some sidechain compression on my stutter edits and made myself sound like BT crossed with Markus Shulz, only more like tiesto... only more like DJ sammy... only not as good?

@ Rich, I think if you ran logic, people would say you should run cubase. Logic and cubase are pretty equal for dance music as far as I'm aware, I certainly don't think there is a "best" sequencer...

I'd forgotten about those little turbo buttons too...

Those are some good producers. I'll have to check out a demo and try it. One of my friends uses Logic, he says it's a bit "quirky" but he's gotten used to using it. I have no doubts that fantastic productions come out of it.

This debate will never end I didt say that Logic makes you the best Producer in the world I was saying that its widely used any many pros use it rather than Cubase although I personally love Cubase more than anything else

Id say its probably something like 1/3 using Cubase, 1/3 using Logic and 1/3 using 'others' (Sonar, Ableton, Reason, etc). This is a complete guess though so its probably way off the mark.

Seems logical.

Although, Logic has done something very clever, they have halfed the price of Logic and replaced USB dongle with a serial number. Making it much more affordable for all customers, I think many will move to Logic now.
